OVERVIEW:
We are looking for an experienced leader in the nursing field to head our nursing staff and to lead by example. The person in this position is to oversee the nursing staff and overall nursing operations of the health center. Their duties include administration of all operations of the nursing team, evaluating and directing all nursing employees, establishing goals for the nursing department and creating and enforcing compliant healthcare policies. The DON infuses collaboration, respect and a passion for helping others by leading the center's nursing team through a shared vision and purpose regarding direct patient care. Holds overall accountability for day-to-day nursing and medical assistant operations associated with direct patient care. Setting forth the environment for a safe, efficient and productive health care center that takes excellent care of the people being served.
The Director of Nursing reports to the Medical Director
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Is responsible for the establishment of standards for the nursing staff to meet the requirements of nursing standards by administrating, and organizing delivery of care, facilities, personnel, schedule, equipment, and supplies necessary for the proper care of patients.
Promotes clinical excellence, staff excellence, business excellence, and customer excellence
Models a service-oriented culture
Ensures Regulatory and Policy Compliance that adhere with the Nurse Practice Act.
Ensures adherence with State and Federal health center requirement
Knowledge of technology, EMR software, Excel spreadsheets, Insurance portal and all computerized information used by the health center.
Along with the Immunization Coordinator, is responsible for the State’s Vaccines for Children Vaccine Program.
Directs the establishment and maintenance of a system of requisitioning, distributing, recording, and dispensing procedures, and use of equipment, supplies, medication, and vaccines.
Participates in the selection of staff needed/entering work force.
Ability to train personnel to keep everyone abreast of new nursing techniques and trends.
Establishes an in-service training and orientation program for new personnel.
Ensures the proper record keeping for all nursing activity and prepares reports as requested/needed.
Ensure the proper use and maintenance of medical equipment.
Ability to work well with supervisors, fellow workers and subordinates
Establishes, formulates, and implements an organizational setup for professional and nonprofessional personnel and delegates’ authority and responsibility necessary in each specific area.
Confers with the administrative, medical, psychiatric, and related staffs in the formulation of policies, procedures, and organization for patient care.
Remains in close contact with the various departments and agencies to continuously search for information for improvement of service ensuring of a high degree of public relations skills.
Perform other duties as directed by the Medical Director or CEO/Director of DHCW

EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in nursing or nursing education.
NOTE: If position includes responsibility over a school of nursing, a Master's degree in Nursing Service or Education will be required.
EXPERIENCE:
Five (5) years of experience as a registered professional nurse, three (3) years of which shall have been supervisory experience in work involving the development of and carrying out of an extensive program of nursing service and/or education.
LICENSE:
Appointees must possess current, valid registration as a professional registered nurse in the State of New Jersey.
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and objectives of professional nursing and nursing education.
Knowledge of technology, EMR software, Excel spreadsheets, Insurance portal and all computerized information used by the health center.
Knowledge of conferring with administrative, medical, clerical, psychiatric, and other service staffs to develop and implement policies and procedures.
Knowledge of organizing assigned professional and administrative work and developing effective work methods.
Knowledge of procedures in training employees.
Knowledge of procedures in dispensing equipment, supplies, medication, and narcotics.
Knowledge of the handling of correspondence, records, surveys, files, and recommendations.
Ability to organize a proper and effective work program embodying the principles of ethics and accreditation.
Ability to work well with superiors, fellow workers, and subordinates.
Ability to study, comprehend, and evaluate reports advanced by research in new techniques.
Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate, and informative reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
Ability to continuously maintain a proper and dignified relationship with fellow employees and a professional approach in public relations.
Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $108,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
