D.M. Bowman, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Sales to work out of our Williamsport, MD location.

D.M. Bowman, Inc. provides a variety of transportation services including regional van, bulk, flatbed, and JIT transportation services. We offer Haz-mat services in all our operations, have CTPAT cross border certification, TWICS drivers and are SmartWay Certified.

The Director of Salesis responsible for managing the sales team, developing, and achieving sales goals, developing pricing strategies, identifying potential new customers, and proposing creative solutions for new and existing customers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Continuously seek new markets/services for development that will enhance the core business and improve profitability.
  • Identify underlying cost factors that impact profitability and negotiate increases/charges to cover these costs (fuel surcharges, accessorial charges, etc.).
  • Coordinate all pricing, bid, and contract issues and review with Director of Operations to ensure capacity exists to meet the demands.
  • Maintain awareness of lane balance needs and direct efforts to continuously improve balance in major traffic lanes.
  • Manage prospecting efforts of regional sales teams within the company footprint.
  • Continuously seek freight that will address driver retention issues.
  • Continuously look for ways to automate processes and use latest technology to partner with customers.
  • Support safe operations and quality of service.
  • Partner with Operations to improve service levels.
  • Negotiate contract terms and structure.
  • Monitor KPI for satisfactory performance.
  • Work with sales force to develop:
  • Market share
  • Service reputation
  • Innovative pricing options
  • Superior customer service
  • Advertising

Requirements:

  • BA or BS degree required
  • 7-10 years of successful sales, management, and truckload carrier operational experience, preferably on the East Coast, United States
  • Brokerage experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate and negotiate effectively
  • In-depth knowledge of truckload carrier pricing strategies, lane development, etc.
  • Some travel is required
