Position Title: Director of San Diego Rapid Response Network

Pay Rate: $83,200/year

Position Overview

Jewish Family Service of San Diego, the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties, the San Diego Organizing Project (SDOP), and SEIU Local 221 are core partners of the San Diego Rapid Response Network (SDRRN or Network). The Network is a group of 40+ immigrant rights and social service organizations, attorneys and community leaders who educate, protect and assist immigrant individuals and families – including refugees and asylum seekers – with legal support and social services. JFS is the fiscal sponsor for the Network and leads the Network’s legal response. Working with the SDRRN Steering Committee, the Director of the SDRRN will provide strategic direction to the Rapid Response Network and ensure the effectiveness of the Network components (legal, emergency response, volunteer, shelter and support services, advocacy, strategic communications, and narrative). Working with Network partners, the Director will provide leadership to sustain and grow the SDRRN in addition to strengthening the Network’s emergency response procedures and plans. The Director will be accountable to the SDRRN Steering Committee and report to the Senior Director of Immigration Services at JFSSD.

Responsibilities:

Leadership, Management & Administrative Oversight, Catalyst for Strategic Advocacy

Leadership

  • Provides strategic leadership related to growth opportunities, outreach, advocacy, and emergency activation and response.
  • Oversees San Diego Rapid Response Network component parts – legal, emergency response, volunteer, shelter and support services, advocacy, strategic communications, and narrative.
  • Ensures integrated response between Network components and leverages associated strengths of Network partners.

Management & Administrative Oversight

  • Facilitates the SDRRN Steering Committee meetings.
  • Convenes SDRRN partner meetings to ensure engagement, participation, and sustainability.
  • Ensure compliance with grant required program policies and procedures. Provides support for data tracking, grant reporting, writing and submissions.
  • Lead and support evaluation and reporting efforts for funders, fiscal agent, advisory board members.
  • Develop new grants and contracts; maintain existing projects

Catalyst for Strategic Advocacy

  • Responsible for convening and/or participating in coalitions to ensure alignment, maximized collaboration, and impact.
  • Represents Network in community and government relations.

Skills/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:

  • Undergraduate degree, and/or advanced degree/equivalent certifications;
  • Bilingual English/Spanish;
  • A minimum of 5-8 years of experience leading and/or managing coalitions and/or networks of organizations, program design and development, building out organizational systems and structures;
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in strategic planning and execute strategic plans;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including communication skills (writing, speaking, and listening), and positive attitude;
  • Ability to manage relationships, build and maintain relationships with clients and partners;
  • Ability to effectively navigate and resolve interpersonal and/or organizational conflict;
  • Solution-oriented mindset to resolve Network/organizational challenges;
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to zealously advocate on behalf of immigrant community members;
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature review, in-service meetings and workshops
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work under pressure required;
  • Ability to work both independently and in a group setting;
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends; and
  • Valid driver’s license, access to an automobile, insurance, and ability to drive to off-site locations.

Skills/Abilities We’d Like You to Have:

  • Experience supervising staff;
  • Experience with program and project management;
  • Experience working with government – City, County, State, Federal levels;
  • Experience working with community-based organizations and/or local coalitions;
  • Experience working with marginalized populations and survivors of trauma;
  • Serving migrant and immigrant communities with a sincere commitment to working on behalf of low-income immigrants.
