The Director of Student Diversity Programs is responsible for leading and supporting the diversity efforts of the Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion. They are charged with designing, implementing and sustaining student diversity initiatives for the campus by encouraging interaction between students, administration and the community. This person, a member of the student affairs team, should see their efforts as a contributing part of The Chief Diversity Officer strategic plan of developing a campus that is focused on student learning and furtherance of the University mission to prepare students for fulfilling lives, meaningful work, and responsible citizenship within the context of a global community and pledge to the University’s diversity statement.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
All Specific Responsibilities align with Student Affairs and the Chief Diversity Office for the Director of Student Diversity Programs.Collaborate with CDO on institution wide responsibilities aligned with Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging.This position will report to Student Affairs and be a liaison to the CDO office working collaboratively with and supporting the efforts of the offices that support underrepresented students, first generation and accessibility services.Consolidate efforts with students, faculty, staff, CDO and the Alliance community to design, facilitate, and implement programming for cultural supports and celebrations.Develop support, advocacy, and provide guidance and resources for student diversity organizations and advisors to diversity council member groups.Facilitate any diversity student retreat or conferences.Collaborate with CDO, Marketing, and Admissions to maintain Diversity website.Work across the CDO office and Student Affairs to create a culture of care and compassion where all feel welcomed and valued.Provide support to the athletic teams with programs that work toward a diverse and inclusive culture where all feel welcome. Support the Chaplain with programs that build toward a diverse and inclusive culture as it relates to spiritual life.Plan and implement programs that promote a diverse and inclusive culture with the LGBTQ+ community.Assist in the hiring and supervision of a graduate assistant for department.Manage departmental budgets.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling or related field and experience working with diverse students or related fields.Strong consideration will also be given to candidates with substantial experience in advising student organizations, program planning and implementation.Demonstrated record of leadership and vision.Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven ability to work collaboratively with administration, faculty, staff, and students.Must be willing and able to work weekends and evenings.Possession of a valid driver’s license and insurable to drive a University Vehicle. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge and experience developing educational programs on a college/university campus or related education environment.Experience in collaboration with students, faculty and professional staff
