Purpose of the Position:
The Director of the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) provides leadership and is responsible for the delivery of environmental health and safety services to the University community. This individual oversees the environmental health and occupational safety compliance activities within the University.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, or a closely-related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and years of related experience.
- 3-5 years of full-time progressively responsible work experience in Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Health Physics, or an appropriate discipline.
- Demonstrated skills and knowledge of the principles and trends of human resource management to effectively and ethically supervise staff.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- A valid driver's license, this employee will be a regular driver.
- Knowledge of EPCRA, RCRA, pollution prevention, Clean Water Act, and other applicable environmental regulations.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial hygiene.
- Current HAZWOPER training.
- Knowledge of chemical compounds and safe handling procedures.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety and operations.
- Familiarity with radiation safety.
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Biology, Chemistry, or Geology is preferred.
- 5-8 years of substantial progressive management experience overseeing environmental and occupational health and safety programs in higher education, research, or similarly complex organization is desired.
- Experience interacting with regulatory agencies, peers, and the university community to review, evaluate, and implement necessary regulatory requirements, policy, procedure, technical documents, proposals, and fiscal requirements is preferred.
- Experience conducting comprehensive hazard evaluations and achieving necessary corrections in a timely manner is desired.
- Experience coordinating complex programs to ensure effective and timely operation in compliance with state and federal regulations is preferred.
- Supervisory skills to effectively recruit, train, evaluate, and motivate staff and build an effective service-oriented environment is desired.
- Experience diplomatically dealing with others and skillfully resolving conflicts is preferred.
- Certified Industrial Hygienist, OSHA Trainer, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Certified Safety Professional, and Radiation Safety Officer Training is desired.
- Experience in crisis management planning, financial planning & budget analysis, and sustainable initiatives is preferred.

$75,000 - $115,000
