The Occoneechee Council, Boy Scouts of America headquartered in Raleigh serves youth ages Kindergarten – 18 years of age. The Occoneechee Council carries out the mission of Scouting BSA in every community within our twelve counties service area. We serve Chatham, Cumberland, Durham, Franklin, Granville, Harnett, Lee, Moore, Orange, Vance, Wake and Warren counties. We are North Carolina’s premier youth organization serving all young people with exciting, dynamic programs based on leadership development, community service and character enhancement including a focus on outdoor experiences and high adventure.

This district executive vacancy serves the Cumberland, Harnett, Moore and Lee counties. Must have a bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.

Position Concept:

The District Executive – working with and providing leadership to a team of volunteers-- is a professional entry level position responsible for the oversight and effective implementation of their assigned district’s operational plan designed to grow youth and volunteer membership, serve and support units and develop and implement programs.

1. Assume direct responsibility to creating awareness of Scouting in your assigned service area that will yield growth of the Scouting program (membership) through a relationships-based approach of leadership.

2. Working with the district chairman and the commissioner, develop agendas for meetings of the District Committee, commissioner staff and district operating committees.

3. Work within an annual calendar to cover all crucial issues in a timely fashion in order to successfully achieve the mission of the Boy Scouts of America and the operational plan of the Occoneechee Council within this geographic area.

4. Responsible for the district's consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives as established by the Annual Operational Plan of the Council. Provide direct supervision/support to the Family Friends of Scouting Campaign in assigned units. Provide support and counsel to the Council’s Camp Card and Popcorn Campaign in assigned units.

5. Assures that the council's philosophy, policies and mission statements are practiced throughout the district.

6. Assures that the flow of funds from the district helps the council to make steady progress toward the achievement of its mission.

7. Recruits, coaches, trains, and recognizes volunteers to execute the various campaigns of the district.

8. Maintains a professional working climate that will attract and keep motivated top-quality volunteers.

9. Serves as the chief district spokesman for the council to assure that the council is properly represented to the public, its Scouters and volunteers.

10. Conduct annual visitations with the heads of our charter organizations in order to establish an open and mutually satisfying line of communications.

Pay: From $42,000.00 per year
