Adult Protective Services is seeking two independent and collaborative leaders to join their team as the Social Services Supervisor located in Spokane, WA. One of the position is a temporary position which can last approximately 12 months and the other is a permanent position.
In these roles, you will function independently as a first-line supervisor of a unit of Social Service Specialists. You will assign, prioritize, audit, and review work assignments, provide consultation and direction in the handling of cases, delegate duties to staff as appropriate, and schedule unit staff to ensure maximum service to clients while meeting staff needs. You will be training and helping with developing staff in conducting adult protective services investigations of alleged abuse, neglect, or exploitation of vulnerable adults.

Some of what you’ll do:
Recruit, hire, train, set expectations, monitor, and evaluate staff performance and adherence to applicable laws, policies, and procedures governing their job assignments and takes corrective action and complete disciplinary actions- Conduct regular staff unit and individual meetings
- Facilitate, lead and participate in unit meetings, case staffing and in multi-disciplinary teams
- Assign work and monitor for equitable work distribution within the unit
- Evaluate training needs of staff, provide training and interpretation and guidance on agency program requirements and policy
- Provide direction in the areas of time management, organization, and case planning
- Train and provide clarification and interpretation to staff in current policy and procedures, long term care manual, Washington Administrative Code (WAC), and Management Bulletins
- Review and monitor decisions related to findings and protective services
- Read records to evaluate for complete and accurate comprehensive investigations as well as effective documentation of case activity

- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to supervise multiple staff and maintain the organizational structure
- Ability to independently assess situations and utilize good professional independent judgment
- Skill and ability to multi-task, reprioritize, assign, and delegate tasks/workloads
- Critical thinking skills
- Skill and ability to de-escalate and diffuse potential crisis situations
Who should apply?
Professionals with:
One year of experience as a Social Service Specialist 4;
OR
Two years of experience as a Social Service Specialist 3;
OR
Four years of experience as a Social Service Specialist 2;
OR
A master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, criminal law/justice or an allied field and one year of paid social service experience equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 3;
OR
A bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, criminal law/justice or an allied field, and five years of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 2
NOTE: A two-year master's degree in one of the above fields that included a practicum may be substituted for one year of paid social service experience.
NOTE: Employees must successfully complete the formal training course sponsored by their division within one year of their appointment.
