EHS HEALTH AND NUTRITION SPECIALIST
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Health/Nutrition Specialist is responsible for insuring compliance with all EHS Health and Nutrition Performance Standards.
RESPONSBILITIES
- Provides support to Home Visitors, Family Child Care (FCC) Specialists, and Family Child Care Providers regarding meeting the health and nutrition needs of children and families
- Tracks and monitors all health/nutrition data, ensuring 45/90 day program compliance
- Reviews all health and nutrition information and works collaboratively with the EHS nurse consultant to develop and monitor all Individual Health Plans
- Engages with parents in follow up of any missing health information and outreach to medical offices to obtain needed medical documents
- Provides consultation and support to parents regarding issues related to health and nutrition
- Reviews Family Partnership goals to ensure health/nutrition needs are appropriately addressed and coordinates with Family Partner to help families access health and nutrition services/resources as needed.
- Conducts bi-annual health and safety screening in FCC homes and socialization space and developing a plan for compliance
- Leads the development of pre/post-natal programing in collaboration with other members of the EHS Leadership Team
- Develops and implements an annual health/nutrition training calendar, supporting the health and wellbeing of the whole family, and as required by Office of Head Start Standards
- Coordinates bi-annual dental clinics and supports parents in follow up for dental referrals
- Oversees the implementation of the USDA FCC food program, including required training, menu planning and review, food reviews, food audits, data management, and billing
- Plans Socialization group meal and snack menus in collaboration with the Home Visiting Coordinator
- Organizes and hosts Health Advisory Committee
- Collaborates with other agencies providing health and nutrition services within the community
- Manages and maintains the program data collection site, My HeadStart, compiling and submitting the annual Program Information Report
- Other assigned tasks as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS
- BS/BA in Health/Nutrition Education, or related health field, MA preferred.
- Knowledge or experience in Head Start or Early Head Start preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of excel, Microsoft Publisher, and on-line data collection programs
- Demonstrated commitment to the Stars mission of working with low-income families and at-risk children
