Editorial Assistant
Technica Editorial is seeking a full-time Editorial Assistant to work with our editorial production and peer review staff. This is an Entry Level Position; duties will include but are not limited to peer review editorial office management and support, manuscript assessment, as well as assisting our editorial staff as needed. Our clients include leading scientific and academic publishers.
The ideal candidate should have an interest in learning the publication process and an interest in learning to copyedit. Candidates should be able to adapt to change, handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously, treat clients and colleagues professionally, and work equally well as a member of the administrative team or independently in a deadline-oriented environment.
The hours will total 40 per week (office hours 9am to 5pm daily).
Technica Editorial provides editorial production and peer review support, training, and consultation to publishing partners in the scientific/scholarly community. Technica Editorial has a unique understanding of the complete editorial management process, from manuscript submission to print and electronic publication of books, journals, and magazines. Our offices are located in the lovely town of Carrboro, North Carolina — within strolling distance of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Duties
- Assessment of submitted manuscripts, adhering to journal style guidelines, sending queries to authors, and completing checklist tasks.
- Assist in-house staff in the management of the peer review workflow for academic journals and books.
- Help with various production tasks, including manuscript tagging and copyediting, author query resolution, proof checking, and collecting copyright and permission forms.
- Answer routine and non-routine editorial questions. Troubleshoot problems and escalate to manager, as appropriate.
- Work closely and proactively with project teams. Ensure that all are fully informed and in agreement with project plan.
Requirements:
1. College degree
2. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
3. Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office
5. Excellent attention to detail and quality
6. Work independently and be flexible and able to deal effectively with change
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to $40,000.00 per year
