Electric Motor Repair Technician

We repair inverter, spindle and servo drives, power supplies, circuit boards, monitors, encoders, motors, motion control and many other devices used in CNC and industrial automation applications. Electric Motor Repair Technician may be designated as level I, II, or III and will troubleshoot and repair simple to complex technical problems on electric motors including: AC and DC servo, AC and DC spindle, 3 phase general purpose, and DC general purpose. Will read and use schematics and mechanical drawings to aid in repairs. Additionally, test functionality of each unit repaired. Technicians will be required to perform repairs of motors down to component level, using mechanical and troubleshooting skills. Use of test equipment (oscilloscope, multi-meter, winding analyzer), machine shop (lathe, mill, sand blaster, balancer, paint booth) and test fixtures to insure complete and proper repair of the each unit is vital. Must be detail oriented and able to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities:

Electric Motor Repair Technician primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Perform simple to complex motor repairs, depending on level, of assigned products which includes disassembling, cleaning, repairing, assembling, and testing.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot simple to complex technical problems using advanced mechanical skills as well as product appropriate mechanical diagram
  • Update and maintain complete and accurate records of work at all times in Repair Tracker and company software, which includes describing the work performed, problem diagnostics, parts replaced, tests performed and test results.
  • Complete scheduled evaluations and determine which parts are needed and what work is required by following established procedures.
  • Conduct repair tests as required by company procedures.
  • Order parts as necessary for each unit processed.
  • Provide supervisor with daily updates of schedule conflicts.
  • Prioritize task assignments as directed by the Supervisor and/or Lead.
  • Maintain tools and keep tool box and work area clean and organized.
  • Participate and attend in training to increase product knowledge as well as attend safety training.
  • Perform routine, repetitive daily inspection and maintenance to repair and testing equipment
  • Maintain repair efficiency set forth by technician level guidelines
  • Determine if part is cost effective to repair or if the item should be scrapped based on parts and labor time.
  • Provide technical assistance to technicians including help in basic troubleshooting as needed.
  • Carryout detailed evaluation of facility and test equipment to ensure that they are in good condition for proper function, repair as necessary
  • May provide technical assistance to technicians including help in troubleshooting and resolving complex repairs.
  • Assist in design, upgrade, and production of testing equipment.
  • Follow Vigilant Safety Practices at all times throughout the facility and on facility property.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment compliant to CLEAN WORKPLACE STANDARDS.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and Technical School Certification required (related field)
  • Associates Degree in Mechanics/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education and experience preferred
  • Prior experience working with electric motors or mechanical equipment is preferred.
  • Must have computer skills and have the ability to enter data.
  • Have good knowledge of electricity and mechanics
  • Have good knowledge of troubleshooting techniques in order to determine exact problems and tackle them accordingly
  • Have the ability to evaluate and fill out computer related work orders in accordance with accuracy
  • Knowledge and use of manual, pneumatic, and electrical hand tools
  • Excellent organizational skills and good housekeeping skills.
  • Detail oriented
  • Good math and people skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include off-shift hours and weekend assignments
  • Speak, read, and write English specific to the nature of the work

Physical Requirements

  • Stamina to work all assigned hours
  • Walking, standing, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds and repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to hear in order to take/give instruction and information.
  • 20/40 vision with or without correction with the ability to distinguish colors.
  • Use of hands 100% of the workday.

Schedule and Salary Info

  • Full Time: 40 hr/week, Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm.
  • Overtime hours may vary in time frame of 7:00am – 8:00am and 4:30pm – 7:30pm Monday – Friday, and 7:30am – 4:00pm Saturday

Pay: $18.00 - $35.00 per hour
