Job Summary
Daily duties for the Supervisor of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Operations may consist of, but not limited, to coordinating the scheduling of emergency medical systems and operations, overseeing the orientation of new staff, yearly licensure/credentialing, dealing with employee issues/behaviors, assisting with hiring/termination, maintaining transport equipment/checklists , and peer reviews. Demonstrates the ability to write and verbalize goals, objectives and document outcomes. Assists with evaluating the performance of current employees.
Strong, effective interpersonal skills and be able to teach and develop the emergency management services group. Works independently and demonstrate accountability to define goals and objectives to achieve desired outcomes. Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies and procedures.
Strong commitment and provides outstanding services and have a clear customer focus. Demonstrates strength in negotiation skills, creativity, flexibility, and innovative in adapting the program to changing customer needs.
Maintain all credentials and have strong clinical skills. Keeps the management team informed on activities within the group such as but not limited to the progress on projects. Attends training classes to maintain national certification, state licensure, trade and education conferences, and keep abreast of new developments in the field, or maintain existing knowledge.
Depending on location of position, work hours will vary depending on patient needs. This may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
In the Sanford Air Med setting: In addition to the responsibilities noted above, the Supervisor of EMS Operations will facilitate in overseeing the performance of Sanford Air Med Staff on transport in the emergency department and will serve as a liaison between the Emergency Department, Emergency Department Clinical Care Leaders, and Sanford Air Med. Spends approximately 50% of their time actively working in a flight paramedic role as the schedule dictates and will be expected to keep a public calendar updated with daily commitments. Provides emergency medical care to patients prior to and during, air and ground inter-facility and/or scene transport. Tolerates various flight conditions such as but not limited to altitudes and weather conditions. Performs in the crisis role in Emergency Department when not flying or performing daily flight duties as well as maintaining a safe environment for the patient, family, and flight team. Participates in Sanford Air Med Management, Air Med Safety, flight team meetings as well as Emergency Department coordinator meeting. Promotes the flight program and develop partnerships with EMS agencies in providing education on helicopter safety training and work collaboratively with the EMS Outreach to meet training goals.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; Post-secondary education (Associates or Bachelor's degree) preferred.
Three years experience in ambulance services preferred, two years of previous experience as a flight medic required for Air Med positions. Additionally, managerial experience preferred.
Depending on state requirements, individuals may need to be nationally registered and may need to have a state license or
additional licensures as required. Additional training provided/workshops and staff meetings are to be attended as per policy.
Must possess a valid Driver's License and have a good driving record.
When working in Airmed a driver's license is not required.
