Description

The City of Algona, Iowa is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) to provide prehospital and interfacility care and transport of medical and trauma patients. This position reports to the EMS Director. The Emergency Medical Technician performs assessment of patients and provides competent care of patients of all ages by applying knowledge of EMT skills

Shifts consist of 3 days on one week and then 2 days on the next week. No backup shifts and no on-call shifts. We offer competitive hourly wages (a full schedule equates to $50-$60,000/yr.) plus opportunities to earn more through overtime shifts. We also offer a stellar benefit package which includes health, vision and dental insurance, paid vacation time, sick, holiday and bereavement leave, $500/yr. medical reimbursement, life insurance and IPERS. A $400/yr. clothing allowance is provided as a benefit to our full-time employees. Formal and Informal CEH’s are provided in-house as well as opportunities to attend state and regional conferences at no cost to the employee.

The City of Algona has worked closely with Kossuth County to transition the service to a county-wide system with staff based in Algona and Swea City. EMS is taking steps towards becoming an essential service in Kossuth County and the ideal candidate would be interested in helping build upon this concept. We anticipate further positive change in our EMS system as this approach develops. Algona EMS and Kossuth County are committed to making this EMS system the best with newly updated equipment, including 2 Hamilton T1 Ventilators, 6 LUCAS devices, 5 C-Mac Video Laryngoscopes, and a new Zoll X series Monitor.

Qualifications

Successful candidate shall be an Iowa-licensed EMT or above, shall have AHA Certification in Basic Life Support (CPR), a valid Iowa driver’s license and be a high school graduate or equivalent. Candidates subject to pre-employment physical, drug testing, criminal history and background check.
