Purpose
The Manager of Environmental Compliance will lead compliance efforts with state and Federal environmental regulations including environmental, air, water/wastewater, and solid waste for the company’s Kentucky generation, transmission, and distribution facilities. Additionally, this position will provide leadership and advice to direct reports in support of our operations team to ensure compliance with permits, approvals, and requirements; including construction and operating permits and requirements (i.e. air quality, NPDES, SPCC, SWPPP, Corps of Engineers and various other permits and plans). This position will be responsible for the continuous development of an environmental compliance culture, standards, and associated policies and procedures.
Accountabilities

  • Maintain Company compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations by acquiring competency in existing and new regulations and monitoring internal environmental activities.
  • Supervise a culturally diverse workforce through coaching, counseling, and team building to ensure tasks are carried out in an efficient manner. Oversee the operational workload of the team to ensure allocated resources are fully utilized in order to deliver against agreed upon work plan and execute work activities within planned unit and budget cost.
  • Provide direction in creating a long term vision to develop a culture reflective of a commitment toward environmental stewardship.
  • Contribute to the Company’s environmental compliance in providing required reporting, permitting, and developing, coordinating, revising and writing environmental policies and procedures including development of construction and other power plant permits.
  • Develop a good working relationship with federal, state, and local governmental officials to assist in effective and timely regulatory compliance and permitting.
  • Lead the department in supporting Company’s operational areas through development and coordination of environmental projects and emergency response to environmental problems and emergency storm response activities.
  • Provide efficiency and effectiveness by coordinating the acquisition of projections and data for anticipated regulations and required permitting.
  • Provide impact analysis on pending and new regulations when necessary.

Education and Experience

  • BS degree or equivalent experience with industry and operational background in the environmental and/or safety areas.
  • Possess and maintain a working knowledge of all environmental rules applicable to the Company.
  • Minimum of 5 – 10 years management experience in the Environmental Health and Safety field in North America
  • Thorough understanding of environmental laws and regulations as applicable to the utility and energy industries in United States
  • Experience in remote management and supervision - demonstrated leadership qualities
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Superior team building and coaching abilities, both as a leader and a team member
  • Some travel required
