General Functions:
This position performs chemical or microbiological analysis within an assigned section.
The Environmental Analyst is responsible for performing complex
physical and chemical tests and analyses according to established principles and techniques and/or
ensures work is being performed according to quality assurance and quality control standards. Work is
performed under the general direction of the Staff Scientist for the assigned area of the laboratory.
Performance is evaluated through observation, data and/or report review, and annual benchmark
achievements.
Representative Duties / Assignments:
Duties may vary based on assignment:
- Performs sample analysis and documents analytical findings in the LIMS system (data management).
- Performs sample digestions for various methods.
- Ensures all quality assurance and quality control standards for the assigned analysis are met.
- May operate and perform routine preventative maintenance of ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma, ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectroscopy), GFAA (Graphite Atomic Spectroscopy), CVAAS (Cold Vapor Atomic Spectroscopy), CVAFS (Cold Vapor Atomic Fluorescence Spectroscopy), Colorimetric Spectrophotometers, EPA Digestion Methods using Block Digestors, other specialized analytical equipment as assigned.
- Performs non-routine analyses of a specialized nature.
- Participates in internal audits with the QA/QC department to ensure compliance with SOPs and quality control standards.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
