About the job
The Environmental Engineer will:
- Provide environmental support to facility personnel and coordinate environmental programs on site.
- Provide training to plant personnel in environmental protocols and assist in resolution of environmental issues that arise.
- Generate environmental reports required by regulatory agencies.
This position operates with supervision to meet both specific and general goals and objectives and is required to tackle sophisticated problems of a technical nature.
Principal duties and accountabilities:
- Development and implementation of management systems crafted to ensure the plant is in compliance with all Alcoa, Local, State, and Federal Environmental regulations and that continuous improvement, pollution prevention, and compliance are a part of the facilities goals.
- Manage day to day compliance and recordkeeping activities related to site environmental programs and permits.
- Prepare documentation and coordination as required to meet local, state, or federal regulations related to site environmental programs and permits as required including but not limited to LPDES, Solid and Hazardous Waste, DOT, USGS, EPCRA/SARA/CERCLA, TSCA, SWDA, Air and Alcoa Corporate Strategic Metrics and audit/self-assessments (ASAT’s).
- Perform environmentally related problem solving.
- Provide annual and periodic training to plant personnel on environmental programs.
- Apply regulatory interpretation to issues unique to the facility.
- Perform environmental chemical evaluation for all new SDS’s.
- Escort regulatory personnel during site compliance evaluations.
- Facilitate onsite waste minimization team.
- Permit required inspections.
- Help with any Health and Safety activities and training.
About You:

- This position requires a sophisticated solid understanding of Federal and State environmental regulations and ISO environmental management procedures.
- This position requires above average PC and technical writing skills.
- Incumbents in this position should possess human relations skills to optimally meet with customers, both internal and external, and suppliers to resolve environmental related issues.
- Incumbents in this position typically have a bachelors degree in engineering, chemistry, or related science degree and at least 2 years of experience in environmental compliance.
