Environmental Graphics Manager Job at Audubon Institute
The Environmental Graphics Manager’s primary role is to employ architectural elements such as colors, typography (fonts), patterns, materials, images, themes, and messaging to tell a story within a physical space and then tightly integrates that story with its users. They are to design graphic signage and provide oversight of graphics fabrication. In collaboration with the Manager of Interpretive Content, this position is also responsible for ensuring the maintenance of existing and design of new signage, exhibit graphics, and interpretive materials across all Audubon Nature Institute facilities. This position will coordinate input of internal stakeholders and external designers in graphic design. The Graphics Manager will be responsible for managing contracts of graphic designers and graphics fabricators.
To deliver on the Audubon mission, the Environmental Graphics Manager will:
Provide a guest experience of outstanding quality
Ensures that existing graphics, exhibit components, directionals, banners and other decorative elements
are maintained in a manner consistent with ANI standards for audience experience.
- Identify needs for wayfinding and placemaking opportunities to enhance the guest’s visit
- Provide regular reports on project status including scope, schedule and budget to VP of Construction and Exhibitry and
the Executive Team.
- Maintains graphics records, archival database of existing graphics and digital storage of assets.
- Coordinates graphic requests and needs with Audubon Nature Institute staff.
- Ensures appropriateness of all text and visuals on-site so that ANI goals and standards are met.
- Proofreads all graphic text to insure correctness.
- Demonstrates creative thinking and sound decision-making.
Weave quality entertainment through the guest experience
Ability to create preliminary sketches, mockups and graphics proofs as graphics are developed.- Ability to draw, create digital assts and have good design skills as demonstrated through presentation of portfolio.
- Ability to design exhibit, retail, and architectural signage that engages and delights the guests who interact with it.
- Create high resolution graphics that can be used in graphics fabrication.
- Coordinate ANI staff and outside contractors, to design and fabricate graphics,signs, exhibits, and interpretive
materials for all ANI facilities.

- Collaborates with A/V staff and other technical vendors to keep continuity and ease of digital graphics replacement.
Ensure that a professional work environment is maintained during construction projects with minimum negative impact
to guests, staff or animals
Educate our diverse audience about the natural world.
Collaborates with Manager of Interpretive Content, architects, curators and other department heads to
conceive, designand budget new exhibits.
- Lead production, installation and maintenance of educational, engaging graphicsand exhibits which appeal to
diverse audiences.
- Collaborates with Manager of Interpretive Content to research, write and edit various types of text for exhibit
graphics, videos, and digital content.
- Maintain a high standard for design and execution of projects for best guest experience and well-being of all of
Audubon’s living creatures.

Experience: Minimum 3 years graphic design, graphic fabrication and/or exhibit design experience
preferred; Presentation of Design Portfolio recommended
Education: Minimum Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design, Architecture, Industrial Design, Exhibit Design, or related fields.

Software Requirements: Proficient and experienced with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel,
PowerPoint and Outlook. Must be able to work with customized databases and technology and conduct Internet research.
Proficient and experienced with relevant creative technologies including the latest versions of Adobe Creative Suite and
familiarity with Mac OS.
Machinery/Tools/Equipment Requirements: Must have the ability to use mobile devices, computer, fax, scanner, phone and copy machine. Must have ability to learn and use different signage production tools such as Gerber vinyl sign system, laminator, large format printer. Must have the ability to learn to use multiple types of tools for fabrication
and installation of exhibit graphics. Such tools include drills, hammers, screwdrivers, saws, etc.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand or walk for up for extended period of time.
- Typical ability to collect and analyze numerical and written data and verbal information to reach logical conclusions
and ability to determine the time, place and sequence of operations or actions required
- Ability to express and exchange ideas expected

- Ability to work under and handle stress in an appropriate manner required
- May be exposed to high, medium, or low noise intensity
