The Manager Sustainability facilitates the district-wide sustainability work to implement the Sustainability Policy ADG. The Manager directs and supports departments, schools, and partners to set, implement and track environmental goals and programs that reduce City Schools' impact on the environment. The Manager develops and supports education to increase students' understanding of their roles in their local, regional, and global ecosystems. The Manager Sustainability is a self-motivated and energetic individual with strong environmental, collaboration, organizational, and advocacy skills. The Manager must be able to work with diverse constituencies to create programs and policies that will reduce the district's environmental impact and create healthier schools. The Manager must be knowledgeable about the environmental field, talented at motivating and supervising staff, and be able to work independently and collaboratively to set and achieve ambitious environmental goals.
- Leads the creation of the Sustainability Plan every three years and tracks performance metrics.
- Evaluates and enhances the success of existing and proposed sustainability programs.
- Directs and supports project proposals, grant applications, or other documents in pursuit of funding to implement the Sustainability Plan.
- Builds and maintains external partnerships to further the district's sustainability goals.
- Represents City Schools regarding sustainability matters before the Board of School Commissioners and the public.
- Ensures City Schools meets local and state sustainability-related regulations.
- Leads efforts to increase school, teacher, student participation in greening and environmental work.
- Leads efforts to educate staff about resource conservation and healthy building operations.
- Leads efforts to adopt modern technology to reduce City Schools' environmental impact on Earth.
- Represents City Schools in local, regional, and national coalitions and workgroups that promote school sustainability.
- Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board's policies and the professional standards.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required, with coursework in environmental studies, urban planning, architecture, engineering, business administration, public administration, or a related field. Advanced degree in related field preferred.
- At least seven years of related experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of sustainability best management practices.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively.
- Self-motivated and energetic with strong environmental, fundraising, and administrative, and advocacy skills.
- Demonstrated organizational, planning, and collaboration skills.
- Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Valid Class C Noncommercial driver's license and daily access to personal vehicle.
