Summary
This is a general road and bridge construction and maintenance position which operates and maintains trucks, road construction and maintenance equipment. The position works on road construction and or maintenance projects and assists in processing and delivery of road materials. The position requires the operation of trucks and various types of specialized light, medium and heavy-duty construction equipment and is under the supervision of the Team Leader and Road Maintenance Supervisor.

Maintain grounds/land and roads of Finney County through equipment operation

• Operate a variety of trucks, light and heavy construction equipment, maintenance machinery, and material processing equipment necessary for road construction or maintenance projects. Operate machinery and equipment to process, move, load, and store road construction materials as directed. This includes a variety of, but not limited to the operation of: semi-trucks, trailers, motor grader, loader, backhoe, skid steer, scraper, chip spreader, snow plow, and roller.
• Operate machinery and equipment in a safe manner.
• Repairs and constructs roadway surface failures and potholes; seals cracks in pavement and concrete, maintains all road types and shoulders, and grades, waters and rolls gravel roads; sweeps and cleans roads as necessary.
• Perform duties as assigned at sand pit, including training of employees.
• Operate machinery and equipment to help construct and/or maintain roads as directed, includes crack and asphalt repair.
• Mow and clean ditches, ensure intersections are clear, and install and maintain clean culverts to allow for proper water flow. Clear trash from roadside.
• Maintain, if applicable, an assigned maintenance section with a motor grader, tractor and mower attachment, or other vehicles and equipment as needed.
• Set, install, clean and maintain culverts to allow for proper water flow.
• Attach accessories properly to equipment as needed.
• Load and move screen product as needed.
• Complete accurate daily paperwork as required for construction and/or maintenance activities.
• Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on assigned equipment and/or vehicles, to include checking fluid levels, lubrication, and fueling and tire repair.
• Maintain accurate vehicle and equipment maintenance records.
• Communicate potential hazards to the public to supervisor.
• Attend training needed to perform the functions of the job such as mine safety training, OSHA, Hazmat, First aid/CPR, Defenseless Driving.
• Assist in other areas of the department as needed.
• Perform manual labor in clearing ditches, hand loading equipment and tools, uses shovels, wrenches and other tools to achieve tasks.
• Maintains awareness of safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment, including properly wearing and using personal safety equipment
• Performs traffic control activities, as needed, and observes roadway courtesies. Follows safety regulations on all work zone and flagging sites, including placing barricades and cones; reports safety hazards and traffic problems.
• Respond to change productively and complete other tasks as assigned.

Maintains, repairs, and services all department vehicles and equipment

• Perform maintenance and safety checks on assigned equipment and/or vehicles, to include checking fluid levels, lubrication, and fueling and tire repair; complete necessary documentation and maintain maintenance/service records as required for construction and or maintenance activities, equipment, and vehicles.

Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require.
Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written English language skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Proficient in basic computer systems and software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, email, timekeeping software, work order inputs)
• Ability to complete daily work and maintenance records clearly and legibly.
• Ability to operate vehicles and light to heavy duty construction and specialized equipment.
• Ability to perform welding.
• Ability to use shop tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of and ability to perform equipment operation procedures
• Knowledge and understanding of equipment maintenance and service procedures, including the tools necessary to complete assignment.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards, necessary safety precautions, policies, procedures, and regulations applicable to equipment operation and work zones.

Certification, License, Registration

• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with proper endorsements
• Kansas Flagger Certificate within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to obtain CPR and First aid certifications
• Ability to obtain Defensive driving certificate
• PPE training
• MSHA training
• OSHA training
