Executive Director Position Description
Finney County Humane Society (FCHS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that receives funding from various sources including the City of Garden City, Finney County, grants, donations, memberships, memorials and honorariums, kennel sponsorships and fundraising events.
Over 3,000 animals cross our threshold every year and all are treated with compassion, respect and if not microchipped or tagged, most receive a rabies shot and deworming, in addition to any other medical treatment and therapies needed.
This humane care is found in the progressive community of Garden City in southwest Kansas, population of approximately 30,000, is home to a diverse network of cultures with landscaped walking trails, community events, nationally ranked golf courses, festivals, year-round entertainment opportunities and a welcoming environment for you to call home as our next executive director.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be responsible for the oversight of FCHS. The ideal candidate must possess strong and successful leadership of an animal welfare/control agency, collaborating with the Board to establish a strong partnership in the development of its strategic plan. Additionally, promote fundraising, community involvement, as well as administrative functions and financial management. Should have the ability to assess and maintain policies and procedures and exceptional interpersonal skills and relate well to all constituents.
Responsibilities and Duties
The new Executive Director will:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of all of FCHS's programs and services.
- Serve as the voice and face of the organization.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with staff, Board, clients, volunteers, and funders.
- Develop, maintain, and promote positive community relations between FCHS and strategic community partners and the public.
Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable skills and experience in organizational leadership, management, fund raising, and development. Other minimum qualifications include:
- Bachelor's Degree highly preferred, or other combination of education, training, or work that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
- Five or more years supervisory experience in a non-profit, foundation, or government agency, preferably in an animal shelter or clinic setting.
- Three or more years fundraising experience, with proven success in donor outreach and grant writing.
- Proven ability to bridge relationships between a wide array of people and groups, from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience in development, with the proven ability to steward major donors and oversee annual, planned, and foundation giving.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Willingness and ability to understand all federal, state, and local regulations and laws affecting the operation of a shelter and clinic.
- Proficiency in the use of general office computer applications and office equipment with a basic understanding of web-based applications and functions.
- Valid driver's license required.

- Ensure all program services are provided in an efficient, effective and professional manner.
- Ensure Board designated priorities, goals and objectives are achieved at the highest level of quality possible.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
