Responsibilities for this Position:
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Field Service Representative (FSR) to support US Coast Guard (USCG) Sector Los Angeles / Long Beach (LA/LB) and Sector San Francisco. Primary Area of Responsibility (AOR) includes sites within Sector LA/LB, San Francisco and CA Islands, while also covering other Regions as needed. Candidate would be required to drive a company supplied vehicle to cover a minimum of eleven (11) Rescue 21 sites in California: three (3) Coast Guard Stations (STA) and eight (8) Remote Fixed Facilities (RFFs).
The selected candidate will be located in the central CA area of San Lois Obispo County to the North and Ventura County to the South
The FSR will work out of their home and have a GDMS supplied vehicle, tools, and supplies necessary to maintain the Rescue 21 sites including a regional depot spares location. The primary responsibility of this role is for equipment and system support of the Rescue 21 communication and direction finding system at remote sites. The FSR will provide emergency repair response coverage and total system preventive maintenance coverage which will require driving and flying for site access. The successful candidate has detailed knowledge of system tactical employment and optimization and the ability to document failures and corrective action in accordance with proper procedures and methods. This role will act independently in most situations and will prepare and submit periodic status reports and inventories as required by operational procedures.
Field activities will include installing, maintaining, integrating, troubleshooting, testing and servicing of fielded systems/products at customer sites. The FSR will diagnose and repair any mechanical, hardware, software, or system failures using established procedures and submit reports on system reliability metrics to technical/regional support centers. Additionally, the FSR will set up and utilize specialized test and diagnostic equipment to isolate any malfunctions. The FSR works closely with design engineering in evaluating product performance and conducting field trials and will conduct start-up, cutover and checkout activities on newly installed systems. Site and equipment inspections will also be completed in order to perform preventative and corrective maintenance. This position will work with more senior FSR's to plan and emplace system configuration to meet specific mission requirements, conduct technical seminars and training for customers, conduct informal on the job training for other field service staff members and customers, and over-the shoulder/refresher training to users in the field as required.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
California based employee or non-California based employees not subject to a fluctuating workweek. Installs and repairs equipment; instructs customers in equipment operation; provides technical assistance; checks equipment for malfunctions. Conducts technical analysis of product implementations, modifications and enhancements to product in accordance with specific customer specifications and implementations. Troubleshoots technical problems and issues, determines technical solution in accordance with product and customer specifications, and recommends actions to company or customer representatives for coordinative product solution. Assesses product needs in accordance with customer specifications. Conducts technical training and product briefing with customers, vendors and company representatives. Acts as local on-site representative to customer's organization.

- Documents failures and corrective action in accordance with proper procedures, and makes technical recommendations based on this collective data
- Interfaces with Customers, Military Personnel, Government dignitaries, External consultants/experts, all levels of employees across the company, including Executive Management
- Perform complex technical evaluation and resolve critical technical problems on fielded systems
- Performs field activities associated with installing, maintaining, integrating, troubleshooting, testing and servicing of multiple fielded systems/products at customer sites
- Provides technical advice to lower level Field Support Representatives when implementing moderately complex equipment installations
- Provides technical support independently, and displays a high degree of resourcefulness and initiative
- Recommends design enhancements to internal management and engineering
- Serves as the subject matter expert working with the tactical customer to accomplish initial installation, configuration and reconfiguration of all equipment as the communications environment evolves
- Specific OSHA training such as, 10 hours construction training, may be required as determined by management
- May be required to work outside for up to 10 hours a day
- Must be able to travel outside of assigned region 50% of the time
- Typically handles complex products and/or problems, provides technical guidance to lower level Field Support Representatives
- Works closely with design engineering in evaluating product performance and conducting field trials
- Works independently with minimal supervision
- Works with customer leadership on the planning and implementation of system customization to meeting specific mission requirements
- Applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Problem Solving: Develops technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Discretion/ Latitude: Work is performed without appreciable direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective for desired results. Impact: Guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives. Liaison: Represents organization as prime technical contact on contracts and projects. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to act as a system technical advisor for all levels of customer leadership
- Ability to identify and load an Internal Operating System
- Ability to troubleshoot basic program-related faults
- Ability to use HyperTerminal to bypass password on routers/switches
- Ability to work independently
- Strong knowledge of Cisco commands
- Strong knowledge of advanced routing/switching commands/protocols
- Strong understanding of technologies associated with supported systems, and the application of these technologies within the customer environment, including detailed knowledge of system tactical employment configuration
- Strong knowledge of auxiliary power unit repair
- Knowledge of basic test theory
- Knowledge of basic tool safety
- Strong knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning repair and maintenance
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong knowledge of test and diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.
