Primary Function
The Fire Suppression (Sprinkler) Technician is responsible for providing specific responsibility for installing, repairing and/or replacing fire suppression systems and related equipment; maintaining a regular inspection schedule; documenting activities; assisting other skilled trades; and ensuring that tools and materials are available as needed. This position is based in the Washington DC Metro area, with periodic overseas travel.
Responsibilities
  • Travel to overseas Post to execute the repairs, including testing repair work as necessary to ensure functionality and providing basic training to Post personnel on the system as required.
  • Perform maintenance on existing water-based fire sprinkler systems in DOS facilities, per requirements of O8O/OPS/FIR, manufacturer's requirements, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) requirements. This shall include, but is not limited to exercising and cleaning valves, replacing filters and lubricants, and inspecting, testing, and maintaining fire pump(s), fire pump driver(s), jockey pump(s), and fire pump controller(s). This work is performed overseas.
  • Before arriving at Post, you will identify needed equipment and materials, enquire about Post inventory, and either use Post inventory or order and ship to Post all equipment and materials needed to perform the requirements
  • Receive trouble reports from field personnel and diagnose potential issues.
  • Develop simple instructions for field personnel to troubleshoot and fix minor issues within their technical abilities.
  • Repair work will include replacement of devices, wiring, fire alarm control panels, sub panels, individual components withinpanels (such as boards), end of line resistors, relays, modules, network cards, fiber optic or copper network cables, batteries, power supplies, and any other associated equipment that constitutes a fire alarm system. Repair will also include programming of the fire alarm control panel to fix corrupted programs or to incorporate changed system configurations.
  • Serve as part of a team run by a FTE member of O8O/OPS/FIR to inspect newly installed fire alarm and fire suppression systems, as well as any associated systems such as smoke control systems, egress control, emergency lighting, exit lighting, and other life safety systems. This work is performed overseas.
  • Assist FTE staff with the development of written technical requirements, project scopes, testing plans, and other written technical documentation pertaining to their field of expertise.
  • Develop trip reports after a trip to document efforts and results.
  • Other duties as assigned by management
Job Requirements
  • NICET Level II (or equivalent) in Automatic Sprinkler System Layout or Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems.
  • 5 years' fire sprinkler and/or fire pump experience performed at the Journeyman level.
  • You must have an active Secret clearance.
  • Must possess computer skills, Excel, Word, spread sheets, e-mail.
  • Must possess valid current US passport.
  • Strong familiarity with, and perform work in accordance with the following:
  • The International Building Code (IBC) 2012 edition and supplements
  • UFAS
  • Production Manual, 080 Master-Guide-Spec.
  • 12 FAH-5, Physical Security Handbook
  • 12 FAH-6, OSPB Security and Policy Handbook (This SECRET document will be provided after contract award)
  • International Fire Code (IFC)
  • Applicable National Fire Protection Association Criteria to include but not limited to NFPA 13, 20, 24, 25, 70, and 72.
  • 080 Fire Protection Specification - Fire Alarm, Sprinkler, Fire Pump & Underground Fire Mains
Preferred Qualifications
  • Maintenance journeymen or master technicians experience highly desired.
  • Prior military experience
  • Experience working with diverse cultures in an austere, hazardous environment
