The Floating Cook will require flexibility to travel to NUWAY sites across the metro area, as well as occasionally travel outside metro area.
Position Overview
Utilizing a full-service kitchen, the Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious meals ensuring special dietary needs are incorporated into the menu for clients in a residential treatment facility or preparing pre-packaged snacks for outpatient treatment programs. The Cook is responsible for maintaining appropriate health standards for food preparation and kitchen cleanliness, as well as maintain a professional yet friendly relationship with residential and outpatient program clients who may be in an interim recovery point in their lives. The Cook must be able to work split shift hours when required.
This position must be able to maintain client confidentiality in accordance with state guidelines and HIPAA requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Preparation and serving of nutritional meals on a daily basis
  • Cleaning of Kitchen and equipment meeting required sanitary standards in kitchen and storage area
  • Ensuring safe kitchen practices are maintained for each meal service
  • Maintain high standard of safety in use of kitchen equipment including knives
  • Adhere to scheduled menu. Substitutions must be approved by a supervisor
  • Safeguard food inventories
  • Inspect and store incoming goods as to quantity, quality and document receipt
  • Lift heavy food packages/containers up to 50 lbs
  • Punctuality for assigned shift is a must. In event of illness you must notify your manager 1 hr prior to scheduled shift
  • Keep abreast of rules and changes regarding the Safe Serv practices
  • Able to work split shift hours when required
  • Other duties as assigned or required
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Required:
  • Age 21 or older
  • Able to pass Minnesota DHS background study
  • Must be free of problematic substance use for at least one year immediately preceding employment and must sign a statement attesting to that fact
  • Physical Demands: Daily use of computer, phone, and kitchen facility equipment. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, lifting (max 50 pounds) with frequent reaching, bending and stooping
  • Broad cooking skills in a variety of venues with regard to the preparation and serving of nutritional meals on a full service, 3 meal a day basis
  • Working knowledge of kitchen operating procedures including food handling and cleanliness following Safe Serv practices
Preferred:
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 years related experience preparing food in a “scratch” kitchen
  • Previous experience in an addiction treatment residential facility
  • Safe Serv Certification
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to work on a team
  • Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds
  • Minnesota Driver’s License without restrictions
