POSITION TITLE: Retail Aide – Off Site (Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and Stony Brook Medicine)

An ancillary employee who can be self-operating with catered events demonstrates strong interpersonal and customer service skills and performs all aspects of the catering functions. Traveling between both Stony Brook Southampton Hospital @ 240 Meeting House Ln, Southampton, NY 11968 and 101 Nicolls Road, Stony Brook, NY 11794.

REQUIRED:

• Must have a valid NYS driver’s license & vehicle for use of delivery of catering needs. Capable of traveling between both campuses.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

• Two years food preparation / display experience
• Ability to read, write and speak English and follow written and verbal instructions.
• High School level computation skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Strong interpersonal skills

DESIRABLE EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

• Good organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for assisting SB locations with preparation, cooking & serving of food items at different off-site SB operated locations including SB Vets Home & SB Southampton College Campus. Work in tandem with SB Hospital Chefs & Management to cater to diverse crowd.

Non-Patient Care Activities

• Continuous interaction with customers to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Organize and prioritize the daily functions.
• Prepare and set up food at location for presentation and sale.
• Responsible for the timely delivery of all Functions.
• Responsible for the set-up of paper goods and supplies.
• Orchestrate creative displays and designs of food.
• Responsible for the clean-up at the end of functions.
• Transport food carts and equipment in a safe manner throughout the hospital as required.
• Complete food temperature control logs as per established protocol.
• Date, label and rotate stock in accordance with procedural priorities.
• Accurately inventory and maintain necessary supplies to ensure efficiency of catering operation.
• Demonstrate knowledge of infection control.
• Demonstrate knowledge of sanitation with:

Food temperatures

Refrigeration temperatures

Personal hygiene (hand washing)

Use of gloves

Dating of food

• Safely operate and clean equipment according to departmental procedures.
• Demonstrate knowledge of federal, state, local and departmental sanitation procedures and maintain a clean, sanitary working environment in all areas of Food & Nutritional Services.
• Identify and utilize cleaning chemicals used in the department following directions recommended by manufacturers and per MSDA sheets.
• Adhere to departmental dress codes and uniform requirements dictated by event.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Properly label all food items with HACCP guidelines of storing, handling & waste control.

Produce & execute catering events with continually evolving menus & locations. Must be able to adapt to situations quickly & have solid understanding of catering set up & high-volume quick service of customers. Comprehensive knowledge of food, sanitation, food cost & presentation while following all Food Handling Laws & Regulations.
