POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Foundation and Marketing Director
DEPARTMENT: Foundation/Marketing
RESPONSIBLE TO: Chief Financial Officer
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for oversight of SVWC Foundation, which develops and maintains an ongoing multi-faceted fund development program that solicits funds for SVWC operational, capital and endowment needs. Builds and nurtures external relations for the community by working with Board of Trustees, CEO and Department Heads to target influential and people within spheres of influence. Oversees social accountability community outreach program, by identifying need and coordinating supporting events for SVWC and also serves as the point of contact for community sponsorships and donations.
Plans, directs, and coordinates the operations of Marketing and Communications. Oversees and conducts sales of AL and IL accommodations. Supervises assigned Marketing staff. Responsible for budget preparation, implementation, and monitoring. Provides leadership for all activities related to: internal and external communications program development and implementation, marketing and all activities associated with positioning Westminster-Canterbury within the community and the industry.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, LICENSURE:
- Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Business Administration or Communications.
- A personal track record of raising capital, major or principal gifts is highly desirable, and experience at the leadership level with a minimum of five years of management experience which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities in a multifaceted fund raising program.
- Certification as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) highly desirable.
- High degree of initiative and innovation.
- Leadership, interpersonal, public speaking and writing skills are required.
- A successful track record of volunteer management, including the ability to recruit, retain and manage volunteers.
- Proven written and oral communication and organizational skills. Ability to work well with the aging population and interface with staff.
- Organizational skill and attention of detail is key.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Support the mission and purpose of SVWC.
- Present a professional, caring image.
- Employment and annual Tuberculosis testing as required by Virginia State Licensure.
- Must attend annually mandatory in-services required by the State Licensure and all other mandatory in-services and/or meeting required by other regulatory agencies and/or by SVWC.
- Follows and supports the policies and procedures established by SVWC
- Work closely with the CEO, Board of Trustees and related committees, residents, and

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES FOUNDATION:
- Fundraising: Plans, implements, markets and manages the fundraising program. Develops all supporting materials necessary to solicit funds from potential donors to SVWC. The Fellowship Fund, Endowment Fund, the Capital Fund, and others that may need to be created in the future, are eligible to receive tax-exempt donations. Supervises and directs all charitable fund-raising events.
- Creates and sustains a culture of philanthropy among staff, board members, other volunteers, residents, and existing and prospective donors. Provides staff support related to charitable fund-raising to the Fellowship Committee for Special Events, the Foundation Board and SVWC community.
- Facilitates the availability of training resources regarding issues such as estate planning, financial planning, planned giving, annuities, etc.
- Organizes, trains, coaches, and equips board members so that they are prepared to take active roles as participants and leaders in fund-raising campaigns.
- Responsible for developing grant proposals for SVWC activities and programs potentially eligible for grant funding.
- Monitors trends and methods in charitable fund-raising, especially in the housing and long-term care industry; seeks out training and stays current on those trends.
- Executes giving programs to include volunteer management, direct solicitations, memorials, planned giving and direct mail appeals.
- Maintains a comprehensive record of gifts and bequests and ensures acknowledgment of all donations. Interprets and communicates regulatory standards relating to charitable fund raising.
- Facilitates the sponsorships of local community group events and benefits.
- Oversees the corporate social accountability effort on campus to accurately record and report the benefit that the SVWC community offers to the City of Winchester and surrounding counties.
- Has primary responsibility for the planning, development and publishing of the Our Community Connection magazine and SVWC Annual Report.
- Directs and assists Foundation staff in the oversight of resident/staff volunteer opportunities in the greater community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES MARKETING :
- Responsible for development, management and implementation of all marketing for SVWC.
- Monitors trends in long-term care and helps formulate short-term and long-range marketing goals, objectives, and strategies for SVWC.
- Oversees marketing efforts to assure successful sales and maximum occupancy per established goals and maintains a strong future residency list.
- Responsible for identifying, planning, directing and managing special events related to marketing.
- Develops, implements and manages Marketing Department budget and policies.
- Develops and oversees marketing and communications budget within budgetary guidelines established by Administration. Monitors, reconciles and investigates discrepancies and reports to CEO.
- Identifies tactical advertising strategies and implements media plan to include advertising: direct mailings, newsletters, manages ongoing updates to websites and other media production.
- Participates in corporate strategic planning.
- Seeks and participates in opportunities for professional educational development within the limits of time and budgetary constraints.
- Maintains inventory and oversees renovation of guest apartments. Works directly with outside contractor to ensure that renovations to IL apartments and cottages are completed in a timely manner in accordance with the prospective residents’ selections.
- Participates in community relations opportunities to educate the public about retirement options. Must be able to speak publicly to church, civic, and professional groups, etc.
- Attends Coffee with Administration and Residents’ Association meetings as needed to present marketing statistics.
- Supervises duties of all Marketing personnel.
- Participates in various committees.
- Other duties as assigned.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
- Must be able to use, operate and interpret information from equipment in work area.
- Must be proficient with MS Office.
- Preferred experience with Blackbaud/Raiser’s Edge donor database systems.
- Able or willing to attend training to become proficient with the on-site preparation and presentation of charitable gift annuity products.
SPEECH
- Must be able to verbally communicate in the English language directly and over the telephone and be understood.
RANGE OF MOTION
- Must have mobility for all parts of the body, walking, bending, lifting, reaching above head and use of hands.
- Must be able to stand and/or mobilize by walking for 20% of an 8 hour shift.
- Some tasks may require sitting for 80% of the work day.
- Must have manual dexterity, fine motor skills (typing, computer, etc.)
