Primary Therapist

We are looking for a Primary/Licensed Therapist who will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, from assessment and treatment planning, as well as facilitating individual and group therapy sessions.

This position is responsible for assessing, planning, and delivering care for patients with mental and emotional issues, substance abuse, and other addictive behaviors while also delivering educational classes that help clients understand their mental health issues and how to cope with them.

YOU ARE OPEN MINDED AND AN EXCELLENT COMMUNICATOR – You’re always looking to develop professionally and are receptive to learning other treatment modalities that can lead to positive outcomes for patients. You have strong interpersonal communication skills and clearly communicate goals, priorities, and expectations to all team members and patients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

In the first 30-60 days and ongoing:

  • Learns New Hope’s mission, goals, departments, client cases, programs, services, processes, and procedures.
  • Meets and develops a rapport with all team members and learns how each department works with and supports each other.
  • Actively meets with clients for treatment planning and helps them determine what their goals are, what type of treatments they want, and ensures that their treatment plan is patient-centered.

Within the 3rd month mark and ongoing:

  • On a weekly basis, is responsible for seeing at least 8 individual clients 1-2 times a week and leading 3 group therapy sessions.
  • When required, steps in to resolve any client crisis and/or issues. Provides excellent client care and creates memorable experiences for them in order to prevent premature discharges.
  • Provides psycho-educational classes for clients on a variety of mental health issues, teaching clients how to cope with their issues and how to identify common thought patterns.

Within the 6th month mark and ongoing:

  • Maintains the highest quality interactions with the New Hope team and clients, recognizing that the small things matter when establishing relationships and maintaining good company culture.
  • Begins a certification process with a unique treatment modality, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy, that helps provide new and innovative ways to treat New Hope’s clients.
  • Increases their caseload to seeing 9 patients a week and leading 3 group therapy sessions.

Within the 9th -12th month mark and ongoing:

  • Is heavily focused on the expansion and improvement of New Hope’s client treatment modalities.
  • Brings new ideas to the Clinical Director for treating patients that positively impact clinical programming.
  • Increases their caseload to seeing 10 patients a week and leading 4 group therapy sessions.
  • Helps train newly hired Primary/Licensed Therapists on New Hope’s processes and procedures for providing quality care, completing documentation, and teaching educational classes.

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

Master’s or doctorate degree in behavioral sciences or related field required

At least two 2 years of professional experience in a related field required

Valid license to practice psychotherapy in Knoxville OR in the process of completing their hours towards acquiring their license required

Thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations and clinical guidelines (including the DSM V) and standards with regard to ethics, treatment, patient rights, and confidentiality required

Certifications in evidence-based practices such as Seeking Safety a plus

Demonstrated competence in reacting to and handling crises situation required

Ability to work collaboratively with multiple health professionals in a busy and complex environment using tact, diplomacy, and discipline required

Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle patients, family members, visitors, and the general public based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning required

Must have sensitivity to and ability to embrace individuals of different genders, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religions, physical abilities & those with diversified cultural backgrounds required

Proficiency using Microsoft Suite: Outlook, Word, and Excel Experience and using Electronic Medical

Record (EMR) systems required

Strong charting/documentation skills required

Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace

required

Ability to manage priorities, workflow, and adhere to their schedule in a timely manner required

Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm

required

Possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices required
