GARDENER I (Temporary Employment)
Santa Rita Jail, Dublin
Shift: Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.
- Plant, transplant, prune and care for trees, shrubs, and annual and perennial flowers.
- Prepare soil for plants and lawns, using natural and artificial fertilizers.
- Maintain grass lawns with mowers, edgers and blowers.
- Prune trees and shrubs.
- Maintain grounds, walkways, and parking lots.
- Clean up brush and other debris.
- Install, repair and operate irrigation systems.
- May construct paths and walks and occasionally do routine cement work.
- Use and maintain power and hand tools in good, safe condition.
- Work with unskilled helpers; i.e., inmates and other special program employees.
- Perform all duties in a safe manner.
- Safely use chemicals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EITHER I
Experience:
The equivalent of six (6) months of full-time experience in grounds maintenance work.
OR II
Experience:
The equivalent of six (6) month combination of related education and/or training and appropriate experience.
AND
License:
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
Physical Characteristics:
May require heavy lifting and the ability to stoop, crouch, climb ladders, and work outside in all weather conditions.
Special Requirements:
Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
Pay: $26.14 - $31.09 per hour
