Medina County is a rapidly growing community west of San Antonio known for its Alsatian heritage. This entry level position will oversee and inspect TxDOT construction and maintenance projects out of the Hondo Area Office. There will be opportunity for team work, training and career growth in this position. Starting Annual Salary:
General Transportation Tech I -$38,142.00- $42,160.00
General Transportation Tech II -$40,385.00- $44,636.00
This position is for (2) General Transportation Tech I, II, or III depending on business need and applicant's qualifications. TxDot reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on business needs and the applicants work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors.

Performs moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: maintenance contract and material
and process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on
equipment, traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities.
Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties:
- Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including time-keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI
- Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Serves as the only maintenance contract inspector on a small project.
- Assists in inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Maintains construction project records and/or bridge inspection records; processes related paperwork; reviews files for compliance with the bridge inspection Manual of Procedures.
- Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.
- Conducts tests of highway construction materials, makes calculations, and records results.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
General Transportation Tech I
No experience.
General Transportation Tech II
1 YEAR transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience.
All Levels
- Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent.
- No education required.
- Related technical training or education from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

- Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs
