Position Summary*
The Girls on the Run® 5K Coordinator and Program Assistant must possess a passion for and commitment to improving the lives and opportunities of girls in third through eighth grades. Girls on the Run provides a safe and interactive way to learn about healthy living including introductions and education on important topics like goal-setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect. The innovative curriculum gives girls an opportunity to listen and open up while encouraging them to commit to a healthy lifestyle and harness their inner strengths. Girls on the Run of Dayton is a 501(c)(3) organization and currently serves all of Clark, Greene, Miami and Montgomery counties.

The 5K Coordinator and Program Assistant is a part-time position reporting to the Executive Director. The 5K Coordinator/Program Assistant works closely with the Program Coordinator to ensure an organized, high quality, and smooth GOTR season. They lead the 5K coordination to ensure a safe, and fun run/walk events (one in the fall season and one in the spring season) that embody the core values of Girls on the Run. This position is responsible to communicate branded GOTR content via GOTR Dayton’s social media channels, program assistance as required by the Executive Director. Good fit indicators include:

Key responsibilities within these areas include but are not limited to:

5K Leadership

  • Coordinate and lead regular committee meetings (monthly in the 5-6 months prior to the race). Ensure excellent 5K-related communication among all staff and leads and model/maintain positive energy, enthusiasm, and GOTR Core
  • Secure needed goods, services, and vendor partnerships for annual 5k
  • Create and distribute all needed planning timelines and ensure committees are on schedule
  • Manage event registration, including set-up of online registration form and race day paper
  • Maintain 5K budget and track statistics for the day (e.g., number of participants, shirts, )
  • Organize packet pick-up prior to 5K, including securing the pick-up
  • Partner with other GOTR staff to ensure effective 5K-related communication occurs with Girls on the Run coaches, parents, and other stakeholders
  • Ensure completed background checks and maintain records for all 5k volunteers
  • Oversee volunteers on 5k day (volunteer check-in, t-shirt distribution, direction to station, etc.), ensuring a positive experience for volunteers, participants,
  • Serve as the primary contact for all inquiries related to the Girls on the Run 5Ks

Event Planning

  • Solidify the date, time, and location of the events and secure approvals from city, Parks , etc. as necessary
  • Ensure proper insurance, parade permits, and other approvals as necessary.
  • Created needed documents including committee contact info, planning and day-of-event timelines, and to-do lists
  • Provide overall statistics to Executive Director (# of attendees, notes for next year, etc.)

Other Program Assistance

  • Become a certified T3 coach and assist with all coach trainings
  • Help with coach box assembly and distribution in conjunction with shoe distribution
  • Assist with the implementation of GOTR summer programming
  • Assist with updating and maintenance of database management system
  • Assist with updating and maintenance of website

General Responsibilities

  • Serve as a role model for Girls on the Run, embodying the mission and heart of the organization
  • Develop positive relationships with volunteers, community and staff
  • Any other duties deemed necessary by the Executive Director

GOTR Dayton is a collaborative and passionate group of people. We’re hard workers who support each other and go above and beyond for our GOTR girls. This position is part time, offering a hourly rate of $20. Some evening and weekend availability is needed to support coach, volunteer and fundraising events. This position will work in our Centerville office. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
