Grant Writer/Planner
OVERVIEW:
The Grant Writer, under the direction of the Planning & Development Director, will be responsible for applying and securing funding for tribal programs with an acceptable rate of success. This will require searching available funding sources, keeping apprised of new and cyclical funding availability, and working with appropriate staff to complete and submit funding requests and proposals in a timely manner. Areas of tribal growth include, but are not limited to; recreation, cultural and historical preservation, health and social services, education, natural resources and community development.

POSITION STATUS: Full-Time Regular/benefits
SALARY LEVEL: 17 (DOE)
WORK SCHEDULE: 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday thru Friday/Varies
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Will coordinate with tribal department directors to identify, develop and submit grants to support proposed projects and programs that are priorities to the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe (LEKT). Researches, interprets relevant regulations and grant guidelines to coordinate the process of developing a project to submit a grant application for funding purposes.
- Identify potential grant sources for various program areas per LEKT priorities; will also involve research for various programs including analyzing data and evidence based programs
- Keep documentation/log of potential funders, agencies and foundations when conducting research for grant opportunities.
- Develop, edit and draft grant applications for accuracy, completeness and clarity in accordance with grant request for proposals and/or funding announcements.
- Provide copy of all grant proposals to the tribal grant administrator/comptroller, CFO and project manager, department director and tribal council executive secretary.
- Work with planning staff to expand and compile reference materials as needed.
- Provide assistance when needed to the tribes grant writer trainee.
- Disseminate timely information on funding opportunities to tribal department directors and coordinate the proposal planning process if need be.
- Assist with the management of paperless (electronic) files of all grant application on tribal network.
- Prepare the all documents in accordance with the LEKT Grant Submission Policy includes tribal resolution and tribal council approval process.
- Be available when needed to provide assistance in resolving issues and conflicts with funding agencies if not resolvable by the project director.
- Assist with all other planning department functions such as meeting with tribal programs to help resolve funding issues, strategic planning, comprehensive planning and community meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
