Working in Development, you will collaborate closely with the VP of Development, General Manager, CEO, and the entire Leadership Team.
The Grants and Business Development Writer possesses exceptional research, writing, and grammatical skills with a flexible writing style and voice; cultivates relationships with new foundations and current donors to ensure engagement and ongoing support; works cross-departmentally to secure budgets, benchmarks and outcomes for proposals and reports. This key development position cultivates and embraces a high level of understanding of SPAC’s artistic and community programming in order to articulate these offerings to current and potential funders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research foundation guidelines and apply to a range of foundation sources.
- Research private foundations, state, local, and federal government grant opportunities and submit compelling applications by deadlines.
- Write letters, call new leads, and upgrade possibilities for SPAC.
- Create a series of pitch decks for programs and series.
- Collect and synthesize relevant data and statistics regarding program attendance, the organization, and community for use in proposal writing.
- Track letters of inquiry, debrief notes, grant requests, mid-term and final reports deadlines, and acknowledgement letters.
- Draft gift acknowledgement letters to institutional donors.
- Make a significant contribution to the Development Department’s marketing materials.
- Collaborate with the Marketing/PR Department to ensure appropriate credit lines and logos are included on website and in collateral materials per grant agreements.
- Keep funders up to date on significant program changes.
- Draft correspondence from CEO, VP, and Board members to institutional donors.
- Draft institutional speeches and other public remarks for the President/CEO.
- Coordinate with the Finance Department to ensure proper recording and budgeting of grant agreements.
- Manage the pipeline and monitor the progress of the proposal process.
- Assist in the planning and execution of site visits, meetings, and events for foundation staff and leaders.
- Track grant writing metrics to help establish future goals.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- 5-7 or more years of experience in non-profit grant writing or another writing practice that is clear, concise, compelling, and passionate.
- Proven track record in winning major grants.
- Experience conducting prospect research.
- Superb communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Meticulous with details and strict with deadlines.
- Appreciation for the performing arts.
- Experience with project management software and database systems.
- Facility with filing online applications and forms.
- Previous experience with government funding and foundation grants.
Compensation is based upon experience.
