Purpose Statement
The job of Grounds Worker is done for the purpose/s of maintaining healthy and attractive grounds area/s; protecting against erosion; maintaining grounds for assemblies and/or recreational activities (e.g. track, football, graduation, etc.); and ensuring assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner. This job reports to the Area Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

• Pass a criminal background check
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Current Utah Drivers License with Evidence of Insurability
• Able to tolerate extreme temperatures of sun, heat, and cold
• Able to work outside for duration of the work shift
• Work with limited supervision
• Communicate effectively and efficiently with diverse groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and positive working relationships with students, parents, and other district employees
• Adaptable to changing work priorities
• Professional workplace etiquette and represent the school/department in a professional manner
• Speak, read, write, analyze, and follow written and verbal communication in English; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing

Essential Functions

• Adhere to all district and safety practices, procedures and policies
• Flexibility to perform different tasks and assignments on a continual rotation
• Maintain landscaping and athletic fields (e.g. mow, trim, prune, weed control, fertilize, drainage, seeding, etc.) to preserve grounds in a healthy, attractive and safe condition
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements in an efficient and effective manner
• Monitor landscaped areas, equipment, sprinkler systems and grounds (e.g. fields, parking areas, etc.) to identify repairs and/or replacement needs, maintain schedules and preventing erosion
• Operate grounds equipment in a safe manner such as mowers, hand and power tools, etc.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
• Recognize different species of vegetation (e.g, plants, shrubs, lawn types, weeds, etc.) to ensure that the care and extermination of specific types is appropriately enforced, including using appropriate herbicide calibration and application
• Able to roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 on occasion
• Responds to emergency situations (e.g. on-call duties, snow removal, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and supporting other emergency response crews.
• Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.
• Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
• Prepares documents and materials for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 80% walking, and 15% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
