Maintenance and Grounds Specialist Camp Grossman

The Maintenance and Grounds Specialist provides a variety of services, which result in a safe, smooth running and beautiful camp. JCC Greater Boston offers free camp bus service from over 30+ communities in the Greater Boston area, making it possible for staff to receive transportation from their home communities.

This position will pay $4,950 for the season as a starting salary. The salary offered will ultimately be determined by the hours employees will work, scope of the position, the candidate’s relevant experience, and internal equity. The camp season is June 26 - August 18. Hours are either 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM or 8:15 AM - 4:15 PM. Orientation takes place the week of June 19, and staff meetings take place on various Monday evenings. Most counselors and staff also work 1 or 2 additional family nights or overnights, depending on their position in camp.

Camp Grossman is a day camp located in Dover, MA, on 75 acres of the Hale Reservation. Camp Grossman welcomes 1,500 campers and 300 staff each summer. The team is a dynamic group, which works to create a wonderful experience for children while assisting them in building confidence and skills. Our alumni can tell you: Camp Grossman summers are an amazingly enjoyable way to spend your summers while developing great skills such as communication, leadership, time management, conflict resolution, and teamwork.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Ensure a safe, well kept, welcoming environment

· Interact with staff and campers in friendly, professional manner

· Grounds work – caring for the lawn, general cleanliness of the camp

· Repairs (e.g. light carpentry, bulb change outs…)

· Trash collection

· Cleaning (per COVID protocols) – equipment, floors, bathrooms and other areas, if identified

QUALIFICATIONS

· High school education or equivalent required

· Valid driver’s license

· Willing to learn new skills

· Has a “do things well the first time” mindset

· Great customer service (attitude and follow through)

· Able to follow verbal instructions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Able to properly use all chemicals and equipment per job training

· Able to stand, bend, squat, kneel

· Able to lift and move equipment as needed to properly clean around and behind areas

· Able to carry and climb ladders, working while standing on ladders and work in confined spaces

· Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting and kneeling

· Work in various temperature ranges and weather, primarily outdoors

· Lift heavy objects, some exceeding 50 lbs.

· Able to converse in English with staff and members

JCC Greater Boston is a nonprofit organization with roots in earlier Settlement Houses and Young Men’s Hebrew Associations; JCC Greater Boston today offers a wide range of services and program activities throughout the Greater Boston region (~50,000 individuals annually in 98 communities).
