Position: Group Play Pack Leader
Minimum of 6 months of dog handling or dog training experience in a professional setting required.
Group Play provides human and dog interaction that benefit mental stimulation and socialization. Our spacious play areas allow for maximum fun and a chance for dogs to burn off some pent-up energy. Group Play spends most of their time outside. Our space includes 11,000 square feet of artificial turf, a covered pavilion, splash pad and water misters, small pools, bubbles, chase and fetch games, and more.
Our associates work together as a team to provide an impeccably clean, caring, safe and fun atmosphere for pets to enjoy. A Group Play Pack Leader is responsible for the supervision, control, and management of dogs in our busy group play program, while also being knowledgeable of dog behavior, various play styles, and ensuring all the dogs are safe, healthy, and having fun. Other duties of a Pack Leader include awareness and compliance of safety standards, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining a clean and sanitary environment. Every team member is expected to maintain a professional demeanor at all times, use professional language and terminology, and support fellow team members at all times.
Play Group Management Duties:
  • Interact with dogs in group play using appropriate equipment and toys to ensure safe play and minimal stress for all dogs in group play.
  • Maintain visual observation of all dogs in group play and spread your attention equally among all participants.
  • Control play and behavior by following the protocols set forth by management. The Pack Leader is expected to recognize potential problems before they escalate and know how to quickly and effectively break up any situation. Fights in group play are rare but if it does happen you are expected to involve yourself without hesitation in order to break it up.
  • Follow proper dog handling techniques, proper dog introduction protocols, and appropriate praise and correction methods as set forth by management.
  • Observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, disease or discontent. Any issues should be reported to the Operations Supervisor or Manager immediately.
  • Report unusual behavior, restroom habits, injuries or illness to a manger or supervisor immediately.
  • Ensure that dogs have water at all times whether inside or outside. Feed or medicate dogs during the break time if and when appropriate.
  • Ensure that dogs are properly identified and that personal property (leashes, collars, food) are stored in the proper area.
  • Provide a report card and welcome packet for all new group play participants.
  • Be available to assist other team members with tasks as needed such as kennel/suite cleaning, walking boarding dogs, feeding or bathing dogs, and other general housekeeping duties around the facility.
Cleaning & Sanitation Duties:
  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain used animal enclosures and play areas as often as is necessary to ensure areas are clean and odor free.
  • Ensure that animals are clean during their time with us and before checking out of our care.
  • Maintain cleanliness and control the spread of disease by performing tasks such as sweeping/mopping your area, wiping counters, taking out trash, washing used dishes, and checking equipment and supplies.
  • Clean water bowls and toys at the end of each day to ensure cleanliness and prevent the spread of disease.
  • Scoop dog waste immediately and dispose of it in the appropriate containers.
Customer & Employee Relations:
  • Greet all customers and pets with a warm smile and friendly greeting.
  • Bring dogs to and from the group play area. Provide extra help to customers bringing pets in and out as needed.
  • Demonstrate the ability to explain our products and services to customers and answer their questions.
  • Make customers aware of any notable behaviors or injuries involving their pets in group play. Speak to them directly if possible or relay information to reception.
  • Track dog attendance in Impromed and keep good records. Take customer phone calls when needed.
  • Be available on weekends and holidays to help tend to boarding animals.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in functions such as open houses and community events.
  • Work well as a member of our team to ensure that your actions support the company and adhere to our standards and policies. This includes asking for assistance when needed, keeping a positive and professional outlook, and completely abstaining from gossip/negativity regarding coworkers, customers and superiors. Concerns can be brought to a manger or supervisor at any time for further discussion and resolution.
Skills & Knowledge:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 6 months of dog handling or training in a professional setting.
  • Apply knowledge and skills in controlling/handling individual animal temperament
  • Ability to gain an animal’s trust when handling them
  • Knowledge of proper methods of handling and leash control
  • Ability to use cleaning supplies and equipment with skill and efficiency
  • Ability to work independently or as a team on assigned tasks as well accept direction and correction on given assignments. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain alertness to keep safe from possible danger and prevent dog fights and injuries.
  • Have the resilience to come back from disappointment or constructive feedback.
  • Ability to speak professionally with difficult people, problem solve, and make rational and effective decisions.
Physical Qualifications:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of a Group Play Pack Leader.
  • Bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, standing/walking on a hard floor for up to 12 hours a day; typing, writing, balancing, twisting, squatting, rotating, and running throughout the day.
  • Moving animals from one area to another. Restraining animals up to 200 pounds intermittently, lifting animals up to 40 pounds, and lifting animals over 40 pounds with help.
  • Frequently use hands to manipulate, handle or feel objects; may require reaching with hands and arms.
  • Use strength and agility to walk, capture, or restrain more active animals
  • Ability to perform moderate physical labor
Environmental Working Conditions:
  • Noise exposure from barking dogs and machinery
  • Danger of being bitten or scratched
  • Working outside in hot, cold and/or rainy conditions (Group Play spends most of their time outside)
Other Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be punctual and dependable. Tardiness and absenteeism is not tolerated.
  • Effectively communicate in English both in writing and orally. Bilingual is a plus.
  • Carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Maintain confidence and composure around pets.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a background check and drug screen.
Experience, Education, and Training:
The Group Play Pack Leader requires training in dog behavior. The position requires 6 months of prior dog handling or dog training experience. Red Bluff Pet Resort will offer a training period for Pack Leaders but having prior experience with dog behavior is necessary to train for this position.
