Job Title: Gunsmith I

Location: Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA

Purpose and Scope:

Perform detailed assembly and disassembly of foreign and domestic small arms weapons including:

small arms inspection, maintenance, and minor repairs.

Essential Responsibilities for Gunsmith I:

• 
  Knowledge of the tools (i.e. hammers, punches, files, stones, etc.) and gauges needed to perform assigned duties.
• Has limited knowledge in the operation and tooling use of gun-smiting machinery such as lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, etc.
• The Gunsmith I has knowledge of basic shop safety procedures needed to work in a small arms environment.
• Performs support functions for the shop, to include bead blasting and preparing metal parts for refinishing.
• Other support functions include, but are not limited to, ammo inventory and residue turn-in, publication and catalogue updates, tool and capital equipment maintenance, calibration control, weapons cleaning, and organizational level weapons maintenance.
• This person may assist the primary instructor in conducting Armorer’s courses on specific small arms systems.
• Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

• 
  Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1 year experience as a Gunsmith.
• Must be able to lift on an occasional basis a maximum of 70 pounds with frequent or constant lifting of 40 pounds.
• Demonstrated understanding of Safety and OSHA Law & Regulations
• Must be able to climb in and out of military vehicles and related equipment.
• Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Must be able to work in cramped areas for prolonged periods time.
• Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions to include intense heat, heavy wind, heavy rain, and snow or sleet.
• Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
• Must be able to pass a background check and attain a security clearance if required.
• Must be able to pass random drug testing (as required).
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be able to speak, read and write English.
• Must provide a signed DD Form 3150 to confirm COVID-19 vaccination status and provide proof of vaccination.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Typical warehouse environment with no unusual hazards, frequent lifting to 20-50 pounds, kneeling, standing, and walking, routinely sitting and constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.
