Some of the essential job functions include:
- This position is responsible for the supervision of instructors, including annual performance reviews. Mentor CTRI candidates. Supervise assigned volunteers to ensure established operations and safety protocols are followed.
- Ensures the safety of participants, volunteers and equines.
- A strong team player and integral part of an awesome team, works well with other staff members and volunteers.
- Able to evaluate the ability of students and understand their disabilities, keeping in mind PATH Intl. precautions and contraindications that may limit or prevent individuals from participating in equine assisted activities & therapies.
- Effectively communicates with the Volunteer Manager in regard to scheduling appropriate numbers and types of volunteers for classes.
- Able to teach high-quality, goal-oriented, progressive, and safe therapeutic riding lessons.
- Create and maintain a therapeutic and educational environment in Equine Facilitated Learning,
- (EFL), classes for all participants.
- Demonstrate strong horsemanship skills and riding abilities at the advanced level.
- Maintain weekly progress notes via Salesforce database.
- Effectively communicates with riders/parents/caregivers/family members concerning their participants goals, and progress.
- Evaluate safety of tack and equipment prior to each lesson.
- Follow all Hearts & Horses policies & procedures and report any issues with the appropriate staff member (Director of Equine Services, Program Director, Volunteer Manager, etc.)
- Demonstrates a professional attitude at all times, works independently with initiative and is able to give and receive constructive feedback.
- Supervise and mentor instructors for quality control in lessons.
- Professional development of instructors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Holds Advanced or Master PATH Intl. certification, with at least 5 years’ experience in EAAT, or equivalent.
- Holds, or working toward within a year of employment, PATH Intl. Equine Specialist in Mental Health & Learning (or equivalent).
- Trauma informed Mental Health Care knowledge and training is highly desirable.
- Holds current Adult, Child & Infant CPR, First Aid, & AED certifications.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk frequently, jog for horse and participant support, bend/kneel/stoop/crouch for horse cleaning, push and pull stall doors open and closed, lift up to 40 lbs., climb stairs and balance to handle all these duties safely.
- Superb horse handling, riding skills, and full use of hands, arms and fingers.
- Excellent organization and time-management skills.
- Strong technology skills, including MS Office suite, Google technology and data entry skills; Salesforce a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work as a team player in a casual but busy work environment.
- Ability to work calmly under pressure.
- Supervisory experience with volunteers.
- Current Government issued driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
