Health Educator

SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, the Health Educator is responsible for teaching clinical support staff how to educate our patients on various health related topics. The Health Educator will serve as the primary contact person for medical support staff education related to patient education.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Establishes and maintains professional working relationships with other members of the health care team.
  • Adheres to the standards and policies of the Organizational Privacy/Security and Compliance Programs, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations (HIPAA, OSHA, OIG, guidelines, and other State and Federal laws). This also includes reporting to the Board of Directors, Compliance Officer, Privacy Officer, supervisor or suggestion box, any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Attends staff meetings.
  • Assists with conducting assessments and surveys to determine health education needs of staff.
  • Assists with assessing the health needs of health center patients.
  • Assists the DON with the development of materials and trainings to teach staff health related topics, such as managing chronic conditions, medication adherence, and the importance of keeping follow-up visits.
  • Collaborates with the DON and ADON’s to prioritize staff development needs.
  • Monitors staff education and recommends direction with attention to health literacy.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of educational trainings with support staff.
  • Participate in patient and family communication committee meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduate of a school of nursing accredited by National League of Nursing.
2. Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Ohio.
3. CPR – BLS (basic life support) required.
  • One to three years full-time experience in nursing practice is preferred.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Computer experience desirable.
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse group of people.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours as required by position.
