Health Plan Coordinator | Hematology & Oncology Job at Hillsboro Medical Center
Answers incoming phone calls, schedules patient consults, exams and treatments in the infusion center. Greets patients in the clinic. Collects patient payments, creates appropriate receipts, maintains records of all payments received and balances change fund on a daily basis. Enters demographic and insurance billing information in the computerized practice management system, verifies insurance coverage and obtains prior authorization for clinic services, infusion center services, specialty drugs and diagnostic imaging studies. Schedules diagnostic imaging studies and consultant evaluations and conveys information to the patients about future appointments. Scans documents into the electronic medical record system and prepares copies of medical records in response to release of information requests.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES –
Performed majority of the time -
Checks in patients to include gathering patient information and keying demographic and insurance information into the computerized practice management system.
- Accepts credit card, cash and check payments from patients, and prepares appropriate receipts.
- Maintains receipt journals and balances cash fund on a daily basis.
- Schedules new and return visits in the computerized scheduling system.
- Answers telephones and schedules appointments according to clinical protocols.
- Obtains prior authorization for all visits, procedures, imaging studies, specialist referrals and specialty drugs.
- Schedules diagnostic imaging studies and consultant evaluations and conveys information about future appointments to the patients.
- Scans documents into the electronic medical record system.
- Prepares copies of medical records in response to release of information requests.
- Prepares and sends medical information to third parties and referral physicians with proper authorization.
- Maintains appropriate levels of office supplies required to perform tasks, i.e. toner cartridges, paper and forms.
