Health Care Assistant

The health care assistant will assist provider professionals and QIDP's with client care and administrative duties. This position is in the office and in the homes of adults receiving 24 hour supports. The health care assistant will perform administrative duties such as scheduling client appointments, cancellations, and updating records as well as take client information, and record documentation of appointment results, and medication management.

This program sometimes requires emergency health care needs in residential settings and/or visits to the ER.

Health Care Assistant Duties and Responsibilities

Scheduling and attending patient appointments, cancellations, and updating records. Building and maintaining professional relationships with doctors and other medical professionals in the community. Verifying patient identity. Monitoring and taking patient vital signs and heart rate as needed. Entering client information into a database. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitary needs of space. Maintaining required records and documentation. Ensuring client confidentiality. Checking and ordering inventory supplies; ordering replacement supplies as needed. Preparing correspondence, documentation. Working as a vital part of a team of supported living providers.

Health Care Assistant Requirements and Qualifications Strong desire to help people and improve their daily lives. Compassionate and sensitive to client needs and concerns. Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Exhibits patience and understanding. Great interpersonal relations and confident demeanor. Excellent team player. Encouraging to clients and staff; able to mentor and lead. Able to organize and manage large amounts of files, tasks, schedules, and information. Able to perform clerical duties, maintaining files and confidential information, organizing documents as needed.

High school diploma (prefer the completion of a 1-year certificate program or 2-year associate’s degree in medical assistance from a school)Basic Life Support, CPR, (prefer a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) license from the American Association of Medical Assistants); Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) certification preferred. Assistance with Medications will also be necessary. Understanding standard health and nursing practices and procedures. Proven experience as a health care assistant. Good interpersonal skills and communication. Able to work in a fast-paced environment. Strong computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of medical recording is helpful.
