A Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontaminating, cleaning, processing, sterilizing, and distributing medical instruments, equipment, and supplies in a healthcare setting. The following is a general job description for a Sterile Processing Technician:
Duties and Responsibilities:
Decontaminating and cleaning medical instruments, equipment, and supplies, using appropriate cleaning solutions and procedures.
Operating and maintaining sterilization equipment, such as autoclaves and sterilizers.
Performing routine quality control tests to ensure that sterilization processes are effective.
Packaging and labeling sterilized items, using appropriate materials and procedures.
Maintaining accurate records of sterilization processes and inventory management.
Ensuring that all equipment and supplies are stored in a safe and secure manner.
Participating in ongoing continuing education to stay current with best practices in sterile processing.
Collaborating with other members of the healthcare team to ensure the efficient and effective processing and distribution of instruments, equipment, and supplies.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of a recognized sterile processing technician training program or equivalent experience.
Knowledge of decontamination and sterilization techniques and procedures.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and supplies as needed.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to follow established protocols and procedures, and to make decisions based on best practices in sterile processing.
This is a not full time but contracted travel position.
