POSITION SUMMARY
The Newborn Hearing Screener performs hearing screens on newborn patients in the Mother/Baby Unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit prior to hospital discharge.

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
1. Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the HMHD Compliance Plan.
2. Conduct reflects HMHD's values and a commitment to HMHD's Code of Conduct.
3. Attends the required corporate integrity and compliance training and education programs.
4. Demonstrates proficiency in understanding the materials presented during the corporate integrity and compliance training and education program.
5. Complies with all HIPAA standards.
6. Performs hearing screens on newborns in the parent's room if conditions permit. For NICU patients, hearing screens are performed in the NICU.
7. Observes and adheres to Hunt Regional Medical Center's Universal Precautions for Infection Control.
8. Observes and adheres to hospital and department policies and procedures including but not limited to proper patient identification, compliance, infection control and safety awareness.
9. Adheres to program guidelines regarding screen results, verifying insurance information with parent and following proper batching procedures for billing.
10. Provides educational information and literature regarding the importance of early intervention and prevention of hearing loss to the parent or guardian.
11. Follows hospital procedures regarding the input of data into the hearing screen equipment.
12. Participates in Hunt Regional's orientation, classes, etc., including HIPAA training and/or maintaining relevant knowledge of the Newborn Hearing Screen Program.
13. Recognizes potential problems and obtains assistance when necessary in a timely manner.
14. Assists coordinator in confirming or rescheduling outpatient appointments, following up with equipment issues and training new staff as needed.
15. Other duties as assigned.
