Job Summary
Will follow established programs, policies and practices to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements. Will support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the SQF Systems and be accountable to the Kroger Manufacturing Food Safety and Quality Principles. An individual performing the tasks of a Vacation Relief Person must learn and perform all the job requirements for every job in the Production Department. This individual must have the abilities to capably replace any person in the Production Department while they are on vacation or off for any other reason, without a noticeable loss of safety, quality, and productivity on the job. This individual must also be available to work during first, second, and third shifts. This person works a home-base shift but must be willing to have flexible hours in order to work whenever needed, and on the needed shift.
Essential Job Functions
- Must have the ability to set up, assemble, dismantle and clean all of the equipment in the Processing Area, the Raw Milk Receiving Area, the Raw Milk and PT Alcoves, the Milk Filling Room, the Caser/ Stacker Room, the Starter Vat Room, the Modern Fillers, the Empty Case Washers, and the Pusher, Conveyors, and drives in the Milk Cooler, and on the Empty Case Dock.
- Attaches and properly records the correct information on all Processing, and C.I.P. charts for Quality Control and Regulatory purposes.
- Keeps accurate and comprehensive records concerning ingredients used in batching and the processing of products, weight and production control information in the various filling operations, and in the Blowmolding Operation, and on inventories in the Cooler and Warehouse.
- Must be able to disassemble, and manually or mechanically clean all equipment in the Production Department.
- Must be able to disassemble and set all plant equipment up for C.I.P. cleaning.
- Changes all pump seals, replaces valve actuators, valve plungers, and valve o-rings.
- Checks the chemical concentrations and temperatures on all HTSTs, tanks, fillers, and lines during C.I.P., and records the results.
- Checks to insure that all products bottled, have the correct code date, cap, label, and is bottled in the correct container.
- Must be able to perform all set-up and changeover operations on all plant product filling equipment.
- Must have the ability to pack cultured products into milk cases or cardboard boxes.
- Must be able to flavor and to batch products by following the directions of a process formula established by the Q.C. Department.
- Must be able to connect and to disconnect all plant filling equipment to the product supply tanks.
- Must be able to connect and to disconnect all incoming bulk product loads to the necessary tanks. This includes incoming bulk resin and chemical shipments as well.
- Must perform all Essential Job Functions of every Production Department job in the plant when assigned to that job.
- Fulfills all assignments as given by the Master Safety/Sanitation Programs.
- Must obtain appropriate training as “Qualified Individual” to properly monitor Preventative Controls specific to job duties
- Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

- Understand and follow recommended safe procedures to avoid those hazards specifically listed on the JSA for this job.
- Follow the Departmental Safe Practices posted in this job’s area; this includes wearing all required Personal Protective Equipment.
- Follow all plant safety rules and procedures
- Actively participate in the BAPP program
Quality
Follow all departmental Good Manufacturing Practices: no candy or gum allowed in the production area; hairnets and beard nets (if applicable) must be worn in all production areas; no false eyelashes, false finger nails, finger nail polish, or heavy makeup; no jewelry of any kind; no eating in production areas; HFD (clean) uniform must be worn.
Reliability
- Must monitor and report performance of equipment to supervisor.
- Must participate in and contribute to problem solving teams.
- Must accurately report data (i.e. KDT, regulatory tracking etc…)
- Assist in minor PM’s to the level to which training has been completed.
- Machine Operators to run lines at target rates at all times.
Degree of Responsibility Exercised in Position
The efficient execution of this job directly impacts all plant operations in the Production Department. Failure to successfully perform any of the jobs assigned to this individual, will impact all jobs proceeding, and following the process this individual is working with. Failure to operate each job safely, productively, and with the necessary quality procedures can affect the entire organizations bottom line. Therefore, the ability to learn each job correctly and to perform each job well is a must. The Vacation Relief Person must perform the job he/she is assigned almost as well as the regular operator. There cannot be a significant difference in job performance.
Education, Prior Work Experience, and Specialized Skills and Knowledge
- Very strong rational thinking/problem solving, planning skills are required.
- Heavy lifting is required.
- Ability to learn multiple job tasks and to perform several jobs well.
- Ability to perform laboratory tests.
- Must be able to read, comprehend, and follow product formulation directions.
- Must have the ability to read, write, add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
- Must be able to interact and function well with others.
- Good communication skills {numerical recording, writing work orders, etc.)
- A good knowledge of the entire daily production process is required.
- Ability to write report forms, and to record accurate data.
- Ability to safely operate all Production Department equipment.
- Ability to perform chemical sampling and testing.
- Ability to accurately collect product samples

- Repeated stretching, stooping, and bending up to 95 % of the shift.
- Subject to temperature variations from 34 to 90 degrees.
- High hand/eye coordination necessary
- Ability to drive forklift while sitting down up to 95% of shift
- Ability to climb tank ladders, and steps
- Occasionally lift up to 100 lbs.
