General Description
Partner with internal and external professionals to build and strengthen jurisdictional abilities to effectively respond to a range of public health threats, including infectious diseases, natural disasters, and biological, chemical, nuclear and radiological events.
Examples of Work Performed
Supervises public health preparedness employees and may lead clerical staff activities in completion of duties when directed by higher level management personnel.
May collaborate with epidemiologist, data/biometrics personnel.
Directs, Plans, and coordinates the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Planning activities, grant funding and deliverables.
Establishes and implements procedures and plans for preparedness planning, mitigation, response and recovery and coordinates training/exercises, education, and volunteer management programs.
Participates as a member of the Public Health Preparedness Response Team (PHRT).
Shall respond to all bio-terrorism events or large disease outbreaks and other Pubic Health emergencies anywhere in the state, in collaboration with Emergency management and various responding agencies.
Collaborates with community-based organizations to design and implement public health preparedness prevention education programs
Plans and makes culturally sensitive presentations on a variety public health preparedness issues to include terrorist threats and public health emergency situations
Collaborates internally and externally to create educate materials targeting priority community health concerns
Participates on teams to prepare grant applications for public health preparedness education initiatives
Provides internal and external technical assistance towards planning events and activities regarding Public Health Preparedness.
Assists with recruitment and training of public health preparedness educators and health instructors
Evaluates effectiveness of internal and external public health preparedness education programs and recommends modifications
Assists the Director and Assistant Director with research of best practices of public health preparedness
Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the Public Health Preparedness Division as assigned or required
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or related field
MPH or Master’s degree preferred
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Health Education Program Development and related activities
One (1) year of supervisory experience
Certificates, Licenses and Registration:
Must have a current valid Texas motor vehicle operator’s license
Must be able to be insured by the County’s insurance carrier
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge in Health Education Program Development, outreach activities and collaboration with agencies with a common interest in prevention
Bilingual (Spanish and English) with ability to converse fluently in both languages
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $59,585.00 per year
