ABOUT OUR HOSPICE TEAM | GOODWIN HOSPICE

Help us grow our team of seasoned hospice professionals! Goodwin Hospice, a service line of Goodwin Living, is a CHAP-accredited team that provides high professional standards in end-of-life care. We rank among the highest in Hospice Compare scores in Northern Virginia. The Goodwin Hospice team encourages continuing education, promotes self-care, supports team collaboration and respects all disciplines as we work to provide quality hospice care.

About the Position:

Goodwin Hospice Aides provide personal care to hospice patients under the supervision of an RN. As members of the interdisciplinary team, hospice aides contribute to the individualized plan of care. This position requires an aide who is able to drive to patients’ homes and facilities other than Goodwin Living.

Duties:

• patient’s needs and the nursing orders. All care is directed by an RN’s care plan.
• Provide support for and reinforce the team’s teaching to patient caregivers, including appropriate education about end-of-life symptoms and concerns.
• Communicate with the hospice nurse regarding services provided and significant
• findings regarding the patient’s functional status and change in care needs.
• Document the care provided and the patient’s response to care.
• Assist clients in and out of bed, including the use of mechanical lifting equipment, when applicable.
• Assisting clients with walking, including the use of walkers and wheelchairs, when applicable.
• Assist with meal preparation and feeding, as directed by the patient’s plan of care.
• Assist with light housekeeping to including but not limited to making beds, washing dishes, watering plants, dusting empty trash, light vacuuming.
• Aide competencies are assessed annually and PRN. Advance notice is given. Aides must be able to pass their competencies in order to remain employed as a Goodwin Living Aide.
• Position requires travel between Goodwin House Alexandria and Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads and to patients’ homes in the community. Transportation will not be provided by Goodwin Living.

Qualifications:

• Must be licensed by the Virginia Department of Health Professions as a Certified Nurse Aide.
• Must have the ability to deal tactfully with others.
• Must be able to speak, read and write English.
• Must be able to document in hospice software.
