Title: Housekeeper

Program: Maintenance

Hours: 40 hours (shift assignments will include weekend coverage and flexibility to meet 24-hour program or seasonal needs; may include some evenings, holidays or special events)

Supervisor: Maintenance Supervisor

Job Summary: Performs all the necessary work connected to keeping public and private Village facilities clean. This includes offices, conference rooms, restrooms, lounges and stairwells. Duties include sanitizing restrooms and replenishing supplies; emptying trash receptacles and removing recycling; sweeping and dry and wet mopping floors, stairs, and elevators; and washing walls, windows, furniture, and fixtures, dusting, vacuuming and assisting with routine clean-up, providing support for event set up/take down, and performing duties with an eye for detail in a timely manner and ensuring that cleaning equipment and chemicals are used for their intended purpose.

Essential Functions:

· Establishes a routine and performs meeting cleaning goals of assigned area with an eye for detail in a timely manner.

· Performs all tasks with appropriate cleaning equipment and uses the cleaning solutions and chemicals for the purpose intended.

· Cleans and sanitizes staff and residential areas using appropriate cleaning solutions i.e. bathrooms, lounges, conference rooms, hallways, stairwells, laundry rooms, etc.

· Strips, waxes, and buffs floors; vacuums, shampoos carpet and upholstery.

· Following all safety procedures, performs routine preventative maintenance on equipment used to perform duties and responsibilities of position including checking equipment/machines for any wear that would cause the machine/equipment to operate in a manner that would create a safety hazard and notifies appropriate equipment that is not operating correctly and needs to be repaired or replaced.

· Adheres to safety practices by using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times in accordance with Cal-OSHA standards.

· Conducts walk-through inspections of custodial route(s) to ensure they are meeting all standards set forth by departmental policy and expectations.

· Insure MSDS books are current and in the proper location.

· Conducts training and orientation for SLR residents and may be assigned to train and orient new custodial staff.

· Insure custodial closets and storage areas are stocked, neat, orderly, and safe.

· Be at work on time, in proper uniform, and present a neat appearance in accordance with Program Policy.

· Maintain inventory of assigned tools, clothing, radio, and various equipment.

· Performs other reasonably related business duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or management as directed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: May be assigned temporary supervision of SLR residents or volunteers for projects.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Minimum Education and Experience: Ability to read and understand labels and directions for mixing cleaning solutions and chemicals used in the performance of position and instructional manuals for operating machinery and equipment. Three months working as a custodian in a commercial setting and demonstrated understanding of duties and responsibilities of a custodian.

Market: Six months experience in housekeeping or working for a janitorial service. Will consider trade/vocational certificate equal to six months practical experience.

Preferred: One year housekeeping in a hotel, hospital or working for a janitorial service cleaning commercial buildings or properties.

Requirements: Ability to lift a minimum of 45 lbs without assistance, push and pull cleaning equipment and machinery, walk/stand, bend for a majority of the shift, and have the physical strength and dexterity needed to perform custodial tasks. Must also have a valid driver's license and be able to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English.

Other:

· May require fingerprint clearance to work in licensed facility or program area.

· Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR/AED card (must be completed within first 90 days of employment and maintained each year).

· Initial TB testing within first 30-days of employment and semi-annually.

· Blood-born pathogen training within first 180 days, unless deemed unnecessary by Program Manager.

· Participate in NVCI training within first 60-days and maintain annual renewal.

· 40-Hour HAZWOPER certificate within first 180 days of employment and maintained each year, unless deemed unnecessary by Program Manager.

Skills:

· Ability to work effectively with volunteers.

· Highly developed interpersonal skills and highly effective in working objectively with a diverse group of people.

· Team player willing to accept and promote organizational goals and function with minimal supervision.

· Ability to make decisions based on education preparation and experience, which reflect consistency with organization philosophy, policies and procedures.

Language Skills: Ability to communicate, read and write using basic English

Mathematical Skills: Basic math skills. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; bend; walk; sit; use hands to finger; handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear, walk on uneven surfaces. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds and use equipment that requires pushing and pulling such as rug shampooers, vacuums, floor buffers. Specific vision abilities required by the job include ability to adjust focus.
