The Housekeeping/Laundry Supervisor is responsible for the planning, organization, development, and direction of the housekeeping/laundry operation in accordance with state and federal regulations and facility policies and procedures.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains the care and use of supplies and equipment and the appearance of facility areas by performing regular inspections of resident areas and rooms for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of assigned duties.
- Develops routine cleaning schedules for resident rooms and common areas of facility.
- Develops schedules for special projects and large jobs.
- Ensures that housekeeping/laundry staff follow established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies at all times.
- Inspects storage rooms, utility, and janitorial closet for upkeep and supply control.
- Disposes of trash and waste, including biohazards waste and other materials that require special handling in compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Completes required documentation and recordkeeping of Housekeeping and Laundry activities.
- Audits records of staff for accuracy and completeness. Implements approaches to improve department recordkeeping practices.
- Monitors staff for compliance with OSHA mandates on workplace safety including hazard communication and blood borne pathogens. In cases of workplace exposure, provides immediate first-aide and refers employee to appropriate facility staff member for post-exposure follow-up.
- Fulfills all duties of the housekeeping/laundry aide in a manner that sets an example of excellence.
- Adapts daily work schedules to varied staffing availability and facility needs to maintain flexibility in setting and meeting priorities as determined with CEO.
- Provides input to Executive Director on methods of effectively and continuously improving Housekeeping/laundry procedures, supplies, equipment, and staffing patterns including purchasing and ordering of supplies.
- Monitors, teaches, mentors and supervises housekeeping and laundry aides on a daily basis, including disciplinary actions in conjunction with the Executive Director.
- Receives calls/pages from all facility staff regarding immediate needs and facilitates meeting appropriate needs.
- Assists Executive Director of staff development needs to provide regular in-services, trainings, and staff meetings to increase teamwork and empower staff to greater accountability and job satisfaction.
- Monitors workplace for safety and fire hazards and corrects or reports potential problems to supervisor.
- Reports maintenance and equipment problems promptly to maintenance supervisor.
- Participates in fire and disaster drills. In the event of an emergency, carries out assigned duties to assure resident safety.
- Complies with the facility’s privacy practices and procedures related to resident and employee records and all state/federal privacy laws as outlined by HIPAA.
- Assists in performing housekeeping and laundry duties as needed
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands of this position include lifting up to 50 pounds, standing on feet, bending, stooping, reaching, repetitive motion/movement, pushing and pulling.
EDUCATION
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
