EMPLOYEE RELATIONS SPECIALIST
POSITION REPORTS TO: Direct report to the Director of Human Resources
POSITION DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: N/A
PURPOSE OF POSITION: This position provides a broad range of professional employee relations activities including but not limited to: employee consulting, training, conflict resolution, complaint investigation, policy interpretation, and the preparation and delivery of related summary reports and recommendations. Interacts with all levels of leadership regarding legal compliance, discipline, terminations, and negotiated separations.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Investigates discrimination, harassment, whistleblower, and retaliation complaints and complies with regulatory EEO requirements; document and communicate findings to appropriate staff and management levels.
- Act as the HR Department liaison for employee relations matters.
- Assist management in facilitating involuntary terminations.
- Assist with any Adverse Action Notices in relation to the company’s DOJ & FBI background check process.
- Communicate regularly regarding pending investigations and provides timely investigation reports with supporting documentation for all completed investigations
- Create and implement effective interviewing and documentation techniques and establish a tool for tracking
- May partner with outside counsel in conducting investigations to provide counsel and facilitate prompt and effective resolution of workplace concerns
- Assist with creating and updating HR policies and procedures that pertain to employee relations; conduct trainings on compliance with policies and procedures
- Analyze employee relations trends with Leadership and help develop proactive strategies, solutions, programs and policies
- Provide employee relations support for performance management programs and disciplinary actions including investigations and separations.
- Liaison with internal Leave Specialist on various compliance programs including workers' compensation, unemployment insurance, leaves or absence, and ADA.
- Maintain and support the accuracy of all required HR/payroll records including team member transactions, on-boarding forms, EEOC, etc.
- Administer the reporting process for EEOC and any other regulatory compliance reporting.
- Uses surveys, interviews, and other studies to conduct research regarding human resource policies, compensation, and other employment issues. After analyzing the information, makes recommendations on changes.
- Researches and explains laws and legal affairs concerning employment to managers, supervisors, and employees.
- Advises and trains managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems and employee grievances. Develops further training as needed.
- Communicate professionally and tactfully, treating internal and external customers with the highest level of confidentiality and customer service.
- Keeps up on latest industry trends, best practices and shares insights.
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM SKILLS OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree and/or minimum 5 years’ experience in employee relations, investigations, employment law, and disciplinary actions; Master’s Degree/ JD preferred
- Thorough understanding and application of internal and external HR principles, concepts, practices and standards
- Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
- Excellent planning, organization and time management skills, attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks, and work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management, and various agencies at all levels of the organization; use reason and de-escalation skills to manage difficult or emotional situations; present facts and recommendations verbally and in writing; plan, design, implement, and conduct trainings to a diverse level of management, and employees; maintain strict confidentiality
- Ability to coach/advise employees and management through sensitive HR issues to resolve conflict and seek workable solutions; conduct individual and/or group facilitations to foster effective communication and healthy workplace relationships among employees and management; Investigate work-related or compliance issues and preparing summary reports, conclusions and recommendations.
- Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations.
- Working knowledge of standard business practices and procedures, including basic HR practices
- Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, which govern employment policies and practices
- Must be a natural troubleshooter and demonstrate proactivity when issues arise.
- Tech savvy, comfortable communicating virtually and learning new office tools, keeping abreast of advances in technology and social media.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, and possess excellent time management and organizational skills, with ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Consistently maintains a professional appearance and demeanor.
- Able to function well autonomously and as a team member

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Occasional exposure to dust and fumes
- Requires frequent reaching, handling, sitting, standing, walking, hearing, and talking
- Occasional stooping/bending/crouching, carrying and lifting 20 or more lbs.
- The noise intensity level is moderate
