Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods is seeking to hire a Human Resource Specialist at our Fresh Kitchen located at 600-A Southlake Boulevard. Monday through Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm.

Position Summary:

The Human Resource Specialist plays a key role in partnering with departmental leadership and the Human Resource Director (HRD) to provide HR solutions and identify customer needs for assigned business unit(s). Provides a broad array of human resource support and leadership. Functional knowledge of HR functions to include, but is not limited to, recruiting and staffing, benefits, compensation, HR compliance, associate relations matters, training, and development. The successful candidate will have proven ability to lead a group of people toward common objectives and possess strong leadership and coaching skills, be able to direct multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing priorities. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, the ability to generate reports, analyze data/trends, and effectively present information to senior leadership levels is essential for success in this position.

Essential Duties:

  • Under minimal supervision of the HRD, implement corporate HR strategies and initiatives to support overall business plans and objectives of the Company at assigned business unit(s).
  • Keep informed of changes to Federal and State employment laws. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws, company policies, and best practices.
  • Provide an environment of trust, honesty, and open communication for all associates.
  • Conduct interviews and on-boarding activities for new hires and temporary associates.
  • Review and process new hire paperwork for completion and accuracy and make recommendations as needed.
  • Complete associate verification requests and manage the unemployment wage separation claims for business unit(s).
  • Handle associate relations matters. Investigate concerns and conduct internal investigations. Recommend courses of action to HRD and coordinate action plan with plant leadership to resolve issues.
  • Provide advice and guidance to managers regarding performance appraisals, disciplinary, and performance improvement documentation.
  • Provide training, coaching and support to managers and staff on a broad variety of employment issues.
  • Review promotions and employment disciplines to ensure compliance with company policy and fair employment practices.
  • Assist with creating and updating job descriptions and position postings.
  • Monitor associate performance evaluation program for assigned business unit and make recommendations for revisions as necessary.
  • Manage associate referral and progression assigned business unit.
  • Conduct exit interviews, track information from exit interviews to help determine causes of turnover. Inform/advise HRD of issues and solutions and recommend retention strategies.
  • Assist with periodic review of associate handbook; submit recommendations for revisions to HRD.
  • Maintain HR files for assigned business unit.
  • Coordinate HR sponsored events, trainings, and meetings at assigned location.
  • Ability to travel between facilities as needed.
  • Participate in developing new policies, department goals and objectives.
  • Function as back-up and partner to other members of the HR team (Recruiter, HRG, Safety/Worker’s Compensation)
  • Supports GFSI and FSMA. Assist in ensuring that the SQF system is in place and that we are in compliance with all aspects of HACCP plan, SSOPs, and GMPs throughout the plant. Reports all food safety issues to an immediate supervisor.
  • Ensure all associates are trained on and adhere to GMPs, adopted GFSI and established quality standards and procedures.
  • Support an accident-free work culture. Collaborates with HR/Safety Manager to minimize risk exposure from ingredients, equipment, or ergonomics. Communicates the importance of Safety in support of an accident/injury free work culture. Assists with accident prevention and compliance programs, assists in risk identification, and takes appropriate action to minimize risk.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources preferred or the equivalent in work experience, preferably in the manufacturing industry.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Human Resources experience in a manufacturing or Industrial environment preferred, providing a wide range of HR support to assigned business unit and HR team including (but not limited to): recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, retention, training, conducting investigations, associate relations, performance management.
  • Experience working with HRIS, Timekeeping, Payroll, and Applicant Tracking systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), SQF (Safe Quality Food), and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) plans preferred.
