Position Summary - 30 hours per week
Under the direction of the Chief Programs Officer (CPO), the Human Resource Assistant performs or assists with a wide range of human resource day-to-day activities, including recruitment and scheduling, onboarding tasks and recognition programs, benefits and leave, payroll processing assistance, workplace safety tasks, and records management. This position is also responsible for ensuring smooth communication and prompt resolution of employee requests and questions.
Essential Tasks
- Under the direction of the CPO, reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
- Recruits, schedules and assists with the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with CPO to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
- Reviews job descriptions for consistency and accuracy. Posts on recruitment sites as requested.
- Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
- Prepares employee new hire and separation notices and related documentation.
- Assists with new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
- Performs routine tasks and supports CPO in the administration of human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; workplace safety, and training and development.
- Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Assists in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Assists with the maintenance of all employee files/records with consistency and within legal requirements and organizational policies.
Performs other duties as assigned
Prerequisite Qualifications
The candidate must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for employment in this position:
- At least one year of HR related experience
- Highly professional and able to use good judgment and maintain a high level of confidentiality and sensitivity
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required
- Excellent written, verbal and social communication skills
- Able to work independently as well as part of a team with flexibility and willingness to learn and to take initiative on variety of tasks and projects
- Approachable and appropriate interacting with staff at all levels in a rapidly changing environment
- Knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
- Prior to employment, obtain fingerprint clearance and pass TB testing and physical
- Must provide Valid CA driver’s license and current auto insurance
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour
