Job Summary:

Hydro Maintenance Mechanic position will be filled as an A, B, C or D based on qualifications and experience.

This is a Full-Time, Non-Exempt position.

The individual in this position is responsible for performing tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the plant and all related equipment and facilities.

The individual in this position is expected to respond to call outs on an as needed basis.

Working Relationships:

This position reports to the Racine Plant Manager

Responsibilities and Duties:

The following list sets forth the principal duties required for the job at all levels. Employee may perform miscellaneous, related, and incidental work in addition to that specifically outlined below.

• All Eagle Creek Racine employees are responsible for working in a safe manner.
• Maintain a safe work environment for themselves and others.
• Become familiar with environmental limits and regulations which impact Racine Hydro and work to avoid any violations or deviations.
• Qualify in and maintain qualifications for performing general plant operations to include: Starting and stopping the Hydro Units, performing daily walkdowns and plant readings, completing daily paperwork as required.
• Perform Lock-Out/Tagout activities per established guidelines and procedures.
• Assist with the development of new LOTO and other safety procedures.
• Identify abnormal plant conditions and take the appropriate corrective actions in a safe responsible manner.
• Participate in company safety programs.
• Generation of maintenance reports including follow-up actions.
• Complying with company standards, practices, and policies.
• Assisting in developing and improving maintenance procedures.
• Perform maintenance tasks as assigned or required.
• Respond to all emergencies and plant maintenance/operations when ‘On-Call’.
• Performance of other duties as assigned.

Qualifications - Hydro Mechanic D

The "D" Mechanic spends much of the grade becoming oriented to a Hydro plant. It is a learning stage where often the equipment and tools are new to the individual. They must perform duties as a helper to "C", "B", and "A" mechanics, as well as learn Company rules and procedures related to Job Safety, Environmental Protection, Operations, Basic Skills and Maintenance of hydro power plant structures and equipment. Skills and job knowledge will be developed through training resources such as classrooms, videos, computers, and on the job demonstrations.

Education, Licenses and Certifications:

• Associate degree in engineering, industrial or energy technology; OR Associate degree in another discipline and two (2) years of related work experience
• OR high school diploma with four (4) years of related work experience; OR high school diploma with two (2) years of related military experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.

Physical requirements:

• Ability to climb ladders and stairs
• Must be comfortable working around water.
• Ability to routinely lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to wear Personal Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection and other PPE as may be required.

Essential Job Functions and Tasks:

• Utilize a working knowledge of hand tools and portable power tools and their correct usage in order to maintain plant equipment.
• Utilize a working knowledge of basic measuring tools such as rules, scales, straight edges, dividers, squares and protractors, layout simple figures on flat surfaces.
• Calculate areas, volumes, weights, etc. utilizing basic mathematical concepts.
• Comprehend moderately complex written material such as procedures, instructions, technical manuals, etc.
• Assist employees of a higher classification.
• Prepare and maintain records as required. This will include the accurate completion of job orders and writing new ones.
• Assist in obtaining LOTO clearance permits and ensure that the equipment to be worked on has been properly cleared and tagged before work begins.
• Assist employees and perform similar or less skilled duties as assigned.
• Work with employees of higher classification to gain “on-the-job” training to improve skills and advance to the next Hydro Mechanic level.
• Work with employees of higher classification level to develop operational skills needed for proper operation of plant equipment.

Qualifications - Hydro Mechanic C

The "C" Mechanic is an intermediate skilled position. The "C" Mechanic demonstrates all qualities of lower job classification and in addition, the "C" Mechanic is familiar with company rules and procedures and is learning their application. The experience gained in the previous job grade qualifies the "C" grade position to perform the basic routine plant operations and maintenance jobs. Job knowledge and skills have been developed to a "semiskilled" level primarily through on the job (hands on) training. "Semiskilled" indicates a basic level of ability to use one's knowledge effectively and readily in execution or performance of job duties.

Education, Licenses and Certifications:

• Associate degree in engineering, industrial or energy technology; OR Associate degree in another discipline and two (2) years of related work experience
• OR high school diploma with four (4) years of related work experience; OR high school diploma with two (2) years of related military experience.
• At least one year work experience in a power generation facility
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.

• Assist employees of a higher classification.
• Assist in obtaining LOTO clearance permits and ensure that the equipment to be worked on has been properly cleared and tagged before work begins.
• Assist employees of higher classification in developing LOTO clearances and procedures.
• Work with employees of higher classification to gain “on-the-job” training to improve skills and advance to the next Hydro Mechanic level.

Qualifications - Hydro Mechanic B

The "B" Mechanic is a skilled position. The "B" Mechanic demonstrates all qualities of lower job classification and in addition, the "B" Mechanic understands company rules and procedures and is their application. The experience gained in the previous job grade qualifies the "B" grade position to perform the basic routine plant operations and advanced repair and maintenance jobs. Job knowledge and skills have been developed to a "skilled" level primarily through on the job (hands on) training. "Skilled" indicates an intermediate level of ability to use one's knowledge effectively and readily without direct supervision in the execution or performance of job duties.

Education, Licenses and Certifications:

• Associate degree in engineering, industrial or energy technology; OR Associate degree in another discipline and two (2) years of related work experience
• OR high school diploma with four (4) years of related work experience; OR high school diploma with two (2) years of related military experience.
• At least four years work experience in a power generation facility
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.

• Utilize a thorough knowledge of hand tools and portable power tools and their correct usage in order to maintain and repair plant equipment without direct supervision.
• Utilize a working knowledge of advanced measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers to take precise measurements for maintenance related activities
• Assist employees of a higher classification.
• Obtain, prepare and complete LOTO permits and ensure that equipment to be worked on is properly cleared and tagged.
• Prepare confined space and hot work permits per existing plans.
• Perform calculations to determine weight and center of gravity to ensure accurate rigging and lifting/movement of equipment.
• Be qualified to operate machine shop equipment such as drill presses, band saw, grinders sharpeners, and pipe threading equipment
• operate powered tools and hand tools and operate moving and lifting equipment.
• Assist employees of higher classification in developing LOTO clearances and procedures.
• Work with employees of higher classification to gain “on-the-job” training to improve skills and advance to the next Hydro Mechanic level.

Qualifications - Hydro Mechanic A

The "A" Mechanic is a highly skilled position. The "A" Mechanic demonstrates all qualities of lower job classification and in addition, the "A" Mechanic demonstrates leadership skills of employees of lower classification. The experience gained in the previous job grade qualifies the "A" grade position to perform the basic routine plant operations and advanced repair and maintenance jobs, as well as leading and coordinating maintenance and repair projects. Job knowledge and skills have been developed to a "highly skilled" level primarily through on the job (hands on) training. "Highly Skilled" indicates a high level ability to use one's knowledge effectively and readily without direct supervision in the execution or performance of job duties.

• Associate degree in engineering, industrial or energy technology; OR Associate degree in another discipline and two (2) years of related work experience
• OR high school diploma with four (4) years of related work experience; OR high school diploma with two (2) years of related military experience.
• At least eight years work experience in a power generation facility
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.

Physical requirements:

• Must be comfortable working around water.
• Ability to routinely lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to wear Personal Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection and other PPE as may be required.

Essential Job Functions and Tasks:

• Utilize a thorough knowledge of hand tools and portable power tools and their correct usage in order to maintain and repair plant equipment without direct supervision.
• Utilize a working knowledge of advanced measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers to take precise measurements for maintenance related activities
• Develop LOTO, confined space entry and hot work permits in accordance with company safety programs.
• Demonstrate ability to design and fabricate fixtures, brackets and other items as required to assist with the maintenance and repair of plant equipment.
• High proficiency in operating machine shop equipment such as drill presses, band saw, grinders sharpeners, and pipe threading equipment
• Lead work groups, contractors and meetings as required
• Conduct Contractor Oversight on various projects as assigned.
