OverviewMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Indirect Tax Manager reports to the Director of Indirect Tax. This position provides proactive supervision for the Indirect Tax function. The Indirect Tax Manager is responsible for managing the indirect tax compliance function (such as Sales & Use, property, gross receipts, business license tax, Canadian GST/HST/PST), as well as, assisting with indirect tax audits, new registrations, and various other projects.
- Provides management and oversight for Indirect Tax compliance matters (Sales & Use, property, gross receipts, business license tax and unclaimed property)
- Train, develop, and mentor Indirect tax professionals
- Assist with managing external service providers on property tax compliance to ensure timely accurate reporting and remittance
- Perform sales/use tax accounts review and reconciliation
- Provide relevant tax guidance to appropriate businesses/locations
- Assist with tax system implementations and automation of the compliance process
- Work closely with Director of Indirect Tax and other groups to efficiently obtain required tax data and automate tax reporting processes and procedures
- Assist with managing indirect tax audits negotiating favorable outcomes/settlements
- Other duties as assigned by Management
- 3+ years of progressively complex state and local indirect tax experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field
- Strong knowledge of indirect tax law including current indirect tax developments; understanding of key indirect tax processes and data drivers
- Experience supervising a team of at least 3 direct and indirect reports
- Experience with sales/use tax compliance/return preparation using automated returns software package (Vertex experience a plus)
- Experience in or with a large, complex, Multi-Jurisdictional Company
- Big Four Accounting Experience Preferred
- Experience in Healthcare/Retail industry
- CPA or MBT a plus
